Hey purple,
Check these threads when you can as we organise based on wind/waves etc a couple of days before, both north and south.
Also we've got some wave sailing in early Jan at Marrawah in the North west
Purplehaze, great to catch up with you for a sail in Jan when you come down but i will warn you we're a mad fun loving bunch on b...s..ds.
A few of us are heading up to marrawah from the 8th to 16th Jan which is a great place for waves.
There's a few guys in the north who sail at Hawley not far from the ferry at Devonport who you should contact, izaak and anthony Perkins.
Al Planet is always looking for someone to sail with out of Launceston.
Iceman sails mostly on his own at St Helens on the east coast.
When you get down to the south contact me (0417577884)
Before you arrive in tas post your plans onto this site so we know where you're heading
wow! thanks for the warm welcome everyone Ill be in Tas Jan 8 - 15. will try and get to Marrawah for a day but as family will be in tow maynot be too flexible.
If you have you family in tow Stanley is a great little fising village to stay, caravan park, bed & breakfast cottages and the hotel, We've stayed there a few times when our kids were little. See if you can get over to Marrawah, apart from the sailing, if you like wild country you can't beat it.
Thanks for the mention Ant, any riders welcome here in St Helens. Good flatwater in Georges Bay and always looking for company.
Purplehaze, Iceman will certainly show you the spots around St Helens, apart from a good spot to sail it's a beautiful area especially a few km's north at the Bay of Fires.
South you get to Shelly point which is the premier wave saling spot on the east coast on a north to noreasterly topped off with a cosy little spot for the kids (Iceman will tell you how to get there).
Further south Nikpryde and I sailed Bicheno in a norwesterly last summer. got there just as ben Severne was leaving and the locals all thought we were the ones cranking into the loops, we didn't let on.
Coles bay is great for flat water sailing, but it's worth the 20 minute drive to Friendly Beach for a few waves, or just to see the raw beauty of the place, kids will love it.
Off the topic of sailing do the walk over to Wine Glass Bay, not hard but nobody should be allowed to leave tassie without doing that
houston, I walked to Wineglass last time in 78 or 79 as a school kid. there were some fishos in the bay who gave us a bucket of crays which we boiled up and ate on the beach, then they took us couta fishing the next day.
The other memory of Wineglass is that Helen Garner devotes a chapter to it in the novel Monkey Grip. Later made into a movie but they didn't include the Freycinet chapter.
