So if the forecast remains the same for Friday would anyone be interested in going to Trial for the day to check out the wavesailing?

Cant make it Felix. Definitely a good wind forecast, not sure on the swell though. It may be a bit small to get Trial breaking. Good luck

Here are few pics of Felix at Trial.

We arrived at 930 to find out that blasting of the cliff entrance road was about to occur and that if we wanted to go in we couldn't leave until 1700. We had driven a long way so there wasn't much hesitation.

Unfortunately the wind didn't play ball as well as expected while the waves were pretty mushy. Felix managed to grab some waves early on while I could barely stay afloat and upwind. Pretty disappointed but it was definitely worth a try. And at least we have a bit better idea of how the wave operates and what to look for in a forecast next time.

We didn't end up getting out until 1830 which made it a long day. But there are worse places to be stuck.

Gutsy effort pity you didn't get the best conditions. Now you've had a scout what is the best forecast to look for?

Needs wind and waves This swell forecast was meant to be hitting at 13 second period and it was still a bit wonky and I reckon at least 2.5 - 3m would be the best but with a good period anything above 2 would still be on.

Felix what about the wind should it be south to south east?
And the swell what's the limit for size? BOL is best from 3.5m min to 5-6 max before it gets dangerous is Trial similar?

In surfing terms it starts to break with a smaller swell than BOL, as Felix said 2.5-3 is the staring point, 3-4 is optimal, once it gets over 5+ it can start to hit its limit. Trial picks the swell up way easier than BOL, it isn't blocked by outer reefs. SW swell is best

Interested to hear what wind it can handle, Felix?

The wind seemed to be still a bit cross onshore in the southerly. So a south easterly would be the best to get more cross shore.

Although the readings at cape sorell said upwards of 25 knots we didnt get anything more than 15 on the break itself.

Yep I would go SSE-SE. If it was this direction the other day would've been fine with the wind strength it was just slightly too onshore for only 12 knots...
