Great speed session at Doran's today with three sailors arriving from all over the state to compete in the last of the season Doran's speed event. Rod came down from St Helens for a quick first ever GPS lesson from the Mighty Morehead only then to get the top speed of the day in exremely light conditions reaching 18 knots in a 10 knot wind. The Mighty Morehead can only hold his head in shame and will no doubt dispute his embarrassing speed of (I've yet to confirm) time of less than 18 knots.
Sorry gents for not making it on the day.
the kids got sick and I lost the leave pass.![]()
Sounds like it was a fantastic day. Congratulations Dave
Kind regards Russ![]()

I will have to get to the next one
I couldn't score a leave pass either. I'll try and make it to the next one with the Mobile barby-queue. I actually have a GPS (garmin foretrex 201). I don't think its particularly suitable for proper GPS speed sailing but I am getting data cable, etc together so that I can download a track from it. Good enough for Eastys' rebel speed comp anyway.
Good to see everyone getting together in whats normally off season and trying a few different things. Well done Dave.
Yes it was one of those days when you just have to hold on and commit yourself, trust all goes well and you survive.
I used Houston's method of speed sailing which is well known here in Tassie, close your eyes, tighten the rectum and scream like a girl.![]()
That was the first time I'd been sailing at Doran's and must admit, even though the wind on the day was woeful, it looks like a great spot for sailing. I'll try again in Summer when conditions are better.
