It was a busy day at Lagoon. It would have been a good day to run the river race but hopefully this will happen on a future weekend now the Westerlies have returned. There was a competition of sorts with GPS's being worn by a few northern and southern sailors, we could call it a draw or an outright result, how can you really measure these things, its hardly worth checking the GPS Team site.

Seriously impressed with the speeds from goon on Sunday. Was it flatter than usual or were the locals just going harder to try to close the gap with the visitors?

Too much wind down here.........I went back to work for a break

The local guys would know how flat/choppy it was compared to normal. This was my first sail there and from what I could tell is this. From the Low head side and Port Dalyrmple side its fairly flat from the beach to a few hundred mts out. This is in the low/med tide. After the first few of hundred mts you then hit this hell chop as you battle your way for 1km across the other side. I found the PD side flatter and this where I was getting my peak speeds. Sailing into some really shallow weedy water and was only about 30cm deep when I was finishing my run. Reakon you could do 40 knots there on the right day. Have been wanting to try this spot for a couple of years, glad we made the trip

Your right Steve, I think that side of the river has good potential but its rare to have a day like we had and there is only a very small window when the tide is spot on. I'm sure the day will come when someone will hit 40 there...can be super flat sometimes...just watch out for a few sneaky rock bars that are very difficult to spot among the weed banks
