G'day All, I am a returning windsurfer after a 15 year break.... the last thing I sailed was a Bombora Zot!! (well tried to sail with mixed success). I had the basics of water starting down fairly well, but like gybeing could never really pull it off on the Zot with what was at the time a reasonable weight rig.

I have been geting up to speed with the latest designs etc. but am wondering what size board I should be looking for. I have been looking at the boards around the 130litre mark. I am about 78kgs and 6ft. I would like to be able to a bit of everything, I used to sail at Dorans, NW bay, Southport, at the other usual spots around Lauderdale.

I would love some advice on matching rigs and boards etc to my body weight and forecast skill level, I guess I would consider my self to be a well advanced beginner looking to progress my sailing very quickly, thanks in advance Cheers VB

Gday VB
My initial response is that seeing you are an advanced begginner would be to suggest a board around 100litres or maybe a bit less(maybe a freestyle/wave for their ease of use and all round sailing performance) and a sail around 5.8 metres with no cams.

The Zot was around 90 odd litres and weighed the same as my Landcruiser, so if you could sail that, a modern board around 100 litres shouldn't be too much hassle and will be more usable across a variety of conditions than a larger board.

If you want to advance your sailing quickly, don't get caught with a board that's too big or you won't have anything to advance you.

But that's only my opinion. You should have talk to Damien (Jay Sails) he knows what gears available and can get you anything you need at a fair price with the right advice. 0409854754

I'm 83kg and regularly use a 90 litre FW board with a 5.8 Wave Sail from 15knots when free sailing. If freestyle sailing around 100 litres. If wavesailing 85 litre or 75 litre. When the winds around 20plus 5.2meter, around 30plus 4.7m, over 35 and constant 4.2m

I agree with the buzzmiester. At nearly 80kg youd be well served by a 100l board
The freeride/wave ones are good for that. And yep talk to damo

keep in mind that buzzy is no longer an advanced beginner. you might feel comfy on a 130 to start with, but you should be aiming to get onto a 100 liter board as an intermediate
