Well done Steve Charles for setting a 35+ knot spot record at a new location - Derwent River (North of Tasman Bridge). Quite a few sailors sail here and it is reportedly a very nice spot to sail and now Steve's speeds show it is also a very FAST place to sail!!

Ever seen that bay with the tide out? Not very inviting, pure sludge I think But sounds like a good speed destination.

You don't actually sail in there, it was just a spot to launch from. All the good speeds are done outside of that bay.

Best place to launch for sailing above the bridge is at the rowing sheds opposite botanical gardens.
Can't believe we never sailed there "back in the day".

What sort of conditions are good to sail there?? NW? High tide? Are there other places to launch?

Jock I've launched from the other side of the river many times. Drive over the bridge towards Lindisfarne turn first left and head down to the river there's a nice grassy area to rig up. Sailed there on a N-NNW any tide. Never sailed out from Steve's secret spot.
Try sailing under the bridge as Ken and I found easy downwind but not so easy getting back up through. Sailed there one night using the lights under the bridge which was a bit of a hoot

Awesome, thanks for that! I would just love somewhere to sail that is close-ish, so I can convince mum to take me. ;)Sailing by lights is wicked fun, we do it for morning trainings on the RSX! Such good fun. :D

Jock Will and I sail there all the time It's an awesome spot
Launch from Rose Bay cornelian Bay or Lindisfarne in end of Tahune Street
It's good in a Norwest nor'easter or under the bridge in a big southerly
I was out with Steve the day he got the 35 It was In a strong Norwest running along the western shore where water was flat

Awesome, so I might get some back up! Does where you launch from get affected by the wind, or just wherever is convenient? And what about the rowing sheds just near the bridge as an option to launch on the west side if the tide was low and cornelian was a swamp?

Nor-west... Thats what I wanted to hear!

It's probably the best spot for NNW, anywhere down south arm is useless in that wind and for some reason sometimes it's the only spot to sail.

Problem is the bull sharks that hang around, or is it the seven gillers?

serious, you should see the rod mounts cemented into the rocks on the shore opposite Nystar zinc works.

you sail there at your own risk!!!!!!

Tide never a problem best spot to rig is definitely rose bay on the grassy forshore. will an i picked up all the oysters and removed them so you can walk in to waist deep and launch so you rig just where you are sailing with no walking. wind is ok in the rigging area and haven't seen any sharks yet. Have had a dolphincome right becide me. right becide and blow water at me through the hole on his back. Awesome probably saying hello.

Is this just near where the new park is being built? I went on a recon mission today to suss it all out, and that area looked like a good spot. I also went to the end of Talune st but it looked like a better spot if you turned left at the roundabout before you get there? Now we just need some damn wind...

Oh ok, I think I know where you mean. Does said kiddy playground consist of a only small slide and swings? Really small? Either way though, that whole area still looks like a nice place to catch some wind! Thanks for all the info.
