I think Tassie sailors are remarkable sailing in some of the coldest Aussie weather. I am wondering about trying to find a neoprene balaclava. May not be pretty but functional. Have you found a brand that works well: I have tried surf and windsurf shops in WA but failed![]()
What about Flying objects Neoprene beanies?
A lot on the water down here and cheap to!
Another WA company
i use a good woollen beanie for sailing in the cold, it works well, but I change to the flying objects neo under my helmet when the cold is on ,its the bests
Bunch of whimps, just grow your hair long![]()
Seriously long hair and a Gath is plenty warm enough for my head.
Huge thanks for the repilies everyone. I have a fabric hat which is excellent (man made wool equivalent... might be mountain designs). Under a helmet in the autumn this is great, too warm last time I used it.
But when the water is really cold I would like to avoid the worst of the feelings of ice water on the neck and head.
Hope you get some wind soon, I shall never forget the video of dedicated Tassie sailords driving through snow to get to flat water inthe cold. That is dedicated!
Kazza, that's OK for you, not so much for us follicley (sorry I really don't think that is a word) challenged ones. What's wrong with a cold head anyway, I reckon it keeps the brain from overheating.
Hey Evets
I have a Billabong hoodie/balaclava that came as an extra with my 5/4/3 suit. I actually get too hot with it and prefer the neo beanie/Garth combo. They are available. I do shop online and Shore have them but I am think a local store could get one for you.
