The Gromets had a great day in the sunshine. They loved it. All up and sailing quickly. New friends made and lots of laughs.

Fun is the key. They sail if they want.Paddle 'n splash, or lie around in the sunshine watching. When they see their peers doing it they get curious!
Always have plentiful sugar laced incentives and be prepared to abort if conditions are not perfect.

Kids pictured are 7, 8 and 9 and there were a few more not pictured slightly older. My experience is that 6 and 7 year olds tend to like mucking around especially without the sail , but can uphaul and sail with assistance with the rigs pictured. At 8 or 9 years old they can get more interested in the sailing. They all are different though, my boy likes going slow, stopping, getting off and taking off the sail and then getting on the board again with a paddle, while my girl really likes progressing her sailing skills with balancing the board and sail and going as fast as possible. Its just nice to see them on the water with other kids and not playing on ipads!

Great afternoon Relic, the kids are looking forward to another session when the sun, light wind, tides and parents are aligned . The parents are now looking forward to the kids going to bed and having some me time !

Ditto...a day on the water instead of iPads resulted in enthusiasm for sleep after arriving home. There already asking when the next session will be!

A couple more pics from Doran's Road this afternoon. I must say, I now see how Relic got his name (some of his go-fast gear in the foreground of the first pic ).

Im hoping to have one of these by the learn to windsurf day, seriously.
They pack up into the size of a shoe box!!
Will be good to check it out.

That would be great for the kids and learners, I'm sure they will love it. But I would like to add that nothing can beat Relic sailing his One-Design yesterday - his bright multi-coloured retro sail, freestyle moves while simultaneously supervising children, two-up blasting when the wind came in and ability to SUP it was pretty impressive and made me remember why windsurfing took off originally.

The two up blasting is the way to spark the keenness. The kids get the speed thrill straight away. It makes them feel like they are actually in control.
However it does require a capable sailor to do it safely.

The TGale's and Relic's grommets had another great learning session at Doran's yesterday. It's amazing to see how quickly kids progres.
Our esteemed President later suggested we could establish a kind of informal Grommet School this summer.
The crucial aspect though is conducting sessions on days with near perfect conditions. Otherwise kids can easily be discouraged.
Yesterday was one of those perfect days. Once the kids had sailed for a couple of hours, they grabbed the paddles and had a great game of chasing , splashing etc. All frustrations about not being able to windsurf perfectly immediately disapeared.
So if you would like to get yoright Groms involved. PM me with your e-mail so we can let you know when Grommet School is on again!
