Day 2 we got some good wind. Dave and I rigged 8.6 on the big boards. Was the right decision to begin with as when we got to the sand bar was only 12 knots. Wind picked up to 18 and should have been on smaller gear. Most guys on 7.8 which was the right size.

Nice rigging area too. What a bugger Steve. Can you still sail with it or not a good idea?

Day 4 Racing cancelled due to super heavy rain and light wind forecast.

That is after 30 mins of rain.

Tommorows forecast up to 40 knots of wind and over 100mm of rain. Not sure if the direction will be any good for the sand bars.

Think it must be an old age thing. I was sailing in to change down to the 7.8. Feet out of the footstraps doing around 10 knots as I could see the sandbar and it was getting shallow. Fin hits the sand and I jumped off with both feet together onto the sand and not that hard. Then I felt this pop or something in the back of my leg. Seriously felt like someone had hit me with a base ball bat as hard as they could in my calf. The pain for 1 minute was off the scale then felt really sore. Tried to walk in but had over 1km. Got 50 metres then ended up sailing back about 3km to get help. Left the gear on the sandbar which the guys bought in, thankyou. The person on the rescue jetski bought me in, cheers. She was doing 50km an hour over sections of 30cm deep water. I was no joke ****ting myself thinking we were going to hit the sand. I have been told at least 6 weeks off the water with a major tear in my calf mussle. Arrggghhh.

Steve, I feel your pain. Out with a shoulder injury at present for ? months. Hang in there mate. Hope the recovery is better than expected.
Oh, and do all the exercises the physios give you. They definitely make a difference for reducing the chances of these injuries re-occurring.

Steve,
What a bummer & welcome to Sunny Queensland. No doubt you guys at Burrum will be getting the tropical low weather system that has been pounding us here 500km north for the last couple days. Big rains and 63knot gusts here last night but blue skies starting to show out to the north west.

Windy at the moment (18-22knots from the NE) and expecting to increase as the day goes on, so should be good this afternoon when the sand bars become exposed.

Who was it that said we wouldn't need speed gear?
