Great forecast up North for Bellbouy on Sunday.
Are there any Southerns interested in a trip?
Low tide should create good jumping conditions in the morning.

Unfortunately the forecast is too good down here to drive
North this time ;
Sunday : 30 knots westerly 2ft swell later ( shoulder high)
Monday: 26 knots westerly 3foot swell all day ( over head)
Tuesday :24knots west/ Northwest 3ft swell ( head high )
Unbelievable

I'm not working so I'm planning an early start to Sunday. Get a few good hours in on an incoming tide!

Willy weather says bell buoy good nothing in the south but bom says windy in south Sunday Monday??

Shooting for 4 weekends in row where the forecast said no wind . Use the force young Jedi Knights it will happen or at least something Monday maybe definitely sort of

The forecast is solid so we are calling the season's icebreaking W.T event.
The Northern wave sailing competition/expression session will be held at Bellbouy Sunday the 4th of September.
Looks like there will be people will be on the water all day with a full range of experience.

This is very short notice given the calendar came out mid week that stated northern wave event to be held on the 24th sept or 8th Oct , makes it a bit hard for southern sailors to get there on Father's Day .We were all looking forward to catching bellboy in the middle of Spring with abit of extra daylight and warmth any chance of a delay with you folks calling this weekend a training session ?

Its just going to be a relaxed session...no sheep stations on the line...but after last years el nino we failed by waiting for good conditions. If spring really fires the we will hold a second comp hopefully at Bakers.

You seriously cannot call this a WT event without due notice. A local northern fun event yes, but surely this cannot be part of WT wave series.

how much notice would a Wt event require some flexibility is needed...whats the worst that could happen? I ran a slalom event last year with 4 months notice and got 4 participants.....I have already got double that number for Sunday.

If we don't seize the opportunity its very easy to end up with a year with no events, just look at last year.
This is just an ice breaker and from this mornings round of texting it sounded like some could come.

Yes, if it gets people into WT then it's worth it. If there is no overall WT wave award then it doesn't matter when or how many events are held. Sorry for seeming negative, but it was a huge shock and not what you would expect from an association that has draft dates already scheduled. If there is no formality to wave events then we might as well not put down any dates and call them when ever the conditions are on. There would certainly be many events if we just used available conditions instead of selected weekends. If events do not go towards a wave championship and it's about getting people together and on the water, then I'm all for it.

Southern Comp run on the 14th of July back dated winners were the two that sailed that day in 50 knots ; Damo just edging out Flouro in second spot . Third place rob for turning up car park to wisely just watch done and dusted let's move on Marrawah at the Australia Day weekend

If the wind is up, I am going sailing.

Call it whatever you like - who cares. I am going to call it - 'sailing'.

If someone wants to turn up when I am there, and sail 'in company' - excellent - the more the merrier.

If someone cares to organise some one-on-one, or some push-the-limit activities - great - count me in.

If someone wants to not sail, that's your business, I am not going to force you.

But right now I am going to check that my gear is ready, and hope to have some fun time on the water tomorrow.

Yep just sail for fun,we in the south get a gusty version of the NW / west winds that bellboy gets and mostly funnels quite well down the Cole river valley out across Carlton beach but because we only get a ocean swell about 25% of the NW wind days we look for flat windy days down
here to drive up to bellboy for your reliable wind swells.
Most are willing to leave normal conditions down here when a Comp is planned but Sunday looked good down here and the Comp took us by surprise that is why we are sad because we love it when Carlton works and we know bellboy is going work for sure over oct/nov but Carlton may stop now El Niño is over

Forecast looks ok..should be heaps of fun..Nothing serious...Always hard to lock in a full on wave sailing event...our forecast conditions change all the time..come and have some fun

I'm sad because I like to compete, wether its for sheep stations or fun I don't care I just like competition and how it motivates to push harder. I've tried but I can't make it at such short notice. Have fun everyone and well done Gill and Al for organising. I really hope the idea of an event hasn't caused the isobars to spread apart.

In Devonport chasing bees with no sailing gear for a detour to low head. It's blowing 15 knots here an bom has 20 at low head. Have a great sail everyone. I'm green with envy. Forecast looks good.

Conditions are looking fabulous. 25-29 knots was the last BOM reading. There should be a few on the water by 10:30-11:00.

Great day up North.
The wind was strongest in the morning followed by a short lull and then an afternoon blast. The sun was out all day but the water was icy cold.
The boys were on the water for 4 and 1/2 hours ( there will be some tired bodies tonight. )
I spent the first hour and a half taking photos and observing the highlights.
The first three places for our first competition up north go to Geoff, Greene and Hamish followed closely by Al and Jason

Fifth photo - looking at that back foot I am wondering if that shot has captured the start of a "Hamish"...

Anyone who was there will know what I am talking about, as would anyone who has followed Hamish's at times erratic progression along the Front Looping path, from monster-full-on-end-over-end, to no-hands - no feet. Somewhere in between those two ends of the spectrum is "The Hamish". I have it on good authority that he just needs to do a little work on the landings - 'landing' in hospital doesn't really count as 'a landing'.

Thanks Gil for taking the time to record the event - it was a pretty good day in the end, despite the swings and shifts in conditions.

And, YES....I am WRECKED!

Considering the Hamish award I possibly should have also posted this photo.

Its a great shot and shows a level of commitment to rotational moves that I cannot fathom (particularly the end over variety). I would have liked to see the moves early in the day when the tide was still low and the wind and waves were more consistent.

If we get a couple more of these we will be able to 'reverse engineer' this manoeuvre, and then we can all start doing it........ Yeah...right!

This particular one looks like it is going to be the "Back-Foot-Only" version - as Al said, that shows commitment, or possibly that Hamish should be 'committed'... The latter!
