Hi, Just doing research into a freeride setup for beginner/intermediate to suit boggy lake. I'm 85kg. No budget

Does anyone know average windspeed for boggy, as I can't find much info.. seems to be around 12/15knots, correct if wrong

I'm checking out the bic techno 148 as its foil suitable, but not really sure ay. One website says I need a sail of 7 - 8m2 for 15kn winds.... seems huge to me.. www.surfertoday.com/board-size-chart/windsurf

thx in advance

A typical sea/lakebreeze day: 20-25 knots. Consider also Hindmarsh Island - which I think is an easier place to sail for freeride/learning. Both Boggy and Hindmarsh have no weed, so foiling would be viable (although Boggy has a lot of carp).

I learned to sail on a Bic Techno 148. I struggled to get this board up wind. You need a large sail for this board (7m+). Big board small sail combo didn't work. So, I agree with this chart. Nb/ Experienced sailors your weight, you can get going on small gear, but it has to be the right gear (not a Bic !).

Hindmarsh island? I forgot the name, but do they launch from tolarno, or acadia from memory?

What about a 154i JP magic ride with a 6 - 7m2 sail

There's three spots. Aqua cafe, Rankines and the Jet Ski spot. On a seabreeze, the Jet Ski spot is flat but gusty. Rankines is choppy (although not as choppy as Boggy), but wind is very consistent - almost as good as the ocean seabreeze. So, it's a trade off. Get in contact with kdalton (forum member on here). He is a Hindmarsh local and can give you some pointers.

No experience with the Magic Rides, only they are an ultra wide board model and there have been a few going through the 2nd hand buy/sell section last year with a few hours usage. Read into that if you will

Surf bait: I think something like the below link is proven and tested. Keep in mind, the average progression will see you outgrow it in a few months before you will be looking to going down in size. However these boards hold their value and you'll be able to get your money back.

kdalton: Sorry to hear that mate. I know you have struggled with the sport over the past few years. The most consistent winds is the seabreezes in the sea. Lakes are not good places to learn because of they are gusty.

SurfBait - We've been doing some beginner sailing early afternoon or on lesser sea-breeze days at Semaphore. The pluses are consistent wind and shallow water (up to an imaginary line out from the rock wall). The minuses are it can be a bit wavy. You can see what I mean in the middle of this video clip -

That's a Starboard Go 155 with a 2 m2 kid's rig. The board cranks along when I put a full size sail on it (I've nick named it the "Flying Door").
WSA will try and get one of the Foil vendors over to SA to do a Demo day - keep an eye on this forum to see if we can pull it off.

I think he means "sailing" not "selling" Kym :)

Yeah Sugars is pretty good Duke. Very wind direction specific though. I've had some good sails there when it's been butter smooth.
