Nah, I've got 2 brands of sails in both standard and carbon and it makes a difference. most noticeably panels don't stretch as much, sails are more stable and have broader wind range. Lack of stretching in older carbon sails isvery noticeable. sails also absolutely more reactive
compared to mono it's not a comparison. Carbon sails out perform mono in almost every metric. Weight, uv resistance, longevity.
carbon looses out on cost so mono still getting used in entry level and race sails. If the price of carbon sail cloth comes down you'll see race sails adopt it would be my thoughts
there is a reason most race sails in performance yacht classes are using carbon sails
