Wouldn't slightly bigger fins do the same thing ?
You would think ,but Bert from Sunova has been shifting his Sup fins further forward for weaker waves which increases looseness
and better for riding in the middle of the board .for smaller waves
Because kai is a big wave surfer ,I'm thinking grip on the very tail on big drops and wave faces
and using small fins so not to be too grippy so the looseness is still kept .last thing you want is big over sized fins on a big wave
but good direction on the board ,he's a tail rider and drives it home .He's been testing them for a while

I could be wrong

just ask the wife ,I'm wearing her mink coat as I write this .Aloha .
