19.5 Assy Speed, 23 Symmetrical Speed and a 44 Slalom for the big board. I was hoping to get them Friday to use at the PiT but they turned up Monday, bugger, next time. Hanging out to try them as they will be awesome I am sure, don't know why you would get a speed or slalom fin not designed by Chris. They are excellently finished and come in really cool covers, overall a very nice product.

And just to set the record straight although the fins are available through the KA webshop I have zero to do with Tribal Fins (apart from coming up with the name and designing the the logo originally for another project) I do design work only for KA sails and fart around with my board designs, that is it. I am just a massive fanboy of Chris' fin designs, loved my old Lockwood/ McDougall KA fins but as they are all pretty trashed it was time for an update. I am especially excited about the 23 Symmetrical speed fin, the impossible to get KA 23 Sym was a legend, worth its weight in Gold and I am hearing this is better. Can't wait to try them.

How does this shape compare to the SL2 carbon fin that I have?

i think I'd prefer a g10 given the fragility of a fine carbon foil.

for a minute l thought it might of been some goddesses parading on the beach .nice skegs.

I've only been back in the sport for 12 months, but doing ok.... I get about 50% of my gybes and can waterstart etc and have hit 26kts 2sec. Not too bad and I'm progressing fairly quickly. I ride a 115ltr Tabou rocket and weigh about 87kegs.

So currently I'm using FO Nitro fins (a 34 and 38), but I kind of think they don't like to gybe... but it might just be my lack of ability. How would the Tribal Slalom fin compare to my FO Nitros for turning and speed?

P.S. Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but curious about the shape of these more slalom type fins and how that effects turning?

Generally if you want easier turning them go for a slightly swept back free ride style fin. They're still capable of doing low 30's

Got to try my new Tribal 25 weed speed today. Mordy, Port Philip Bay. Gusty cross-off, 10-25 knots, messy wind swell to .5mtr with boat wash mixed in. Tabou Manta 86, 6.6 Koyote.
The fin rocked!!! Overpowered, underpowered, it just kept pushing me forward with such ease. Never let go, even when pushed out hard on the front of the swells, which is where some others of my fins tend to skip sideways. It loved going downwind, nose outta the swells. Overpowered I just locked against the fin and soared upwind.
Thought I'd test its weed shedding ability, but in 10mtr of water not much sea grass around. Lucky we had a good drop of rain lately and the resultant storm runoff provided plenty of plastic bags. Normally with an upright fin these stop me dead in the water. Lined up the first bag, felt it hit then watched it disappear out the back of the board. Tried this again a bit later and same ejection of bag happened.




Successful test I think. Looking forward to the shallow waters of Swan Bay and Invy (sandbars).

Sounds great, whats the rake on the fin, do you think it's enough to shed heavy weed areas.

I used the Slalom 44 today. Not much more to say other than Rock solid and faaaaaaaast!!!!!! It,s a keeper.

Had another run on the fin in the gusty and messy waters at Area 45 Inverloch. Rock solid. Gave me the confidence to keep on the pedal, it was very challenging conditions. Not much weed around to test with though.

Ran the fin thru Swan Bay weed and mud. PB for NM! Confidence in the fin. Solid! There were some patches of weed on the surface that I ran thru, collecting none of it.
