Black Projects TypeR is a stiff fin. Bulletproof dependability in choppy or flatwater. Early planing n pretty good top speed. Even my Rhino weight backfoot cant get the 42.5cm fin to misbehave. Good stuff. Ive no experience with the other fins mentioned.

We use Tribals retry much all the time here. WeedSpeeds PowerMax & Slalom. Love them all. PM & SL hold on real well and if they do come unstuck they quite often self correct. Just got CLSL2 carbons too and they are the next couple of levels up!!!

^^ As im sure you are aware the BP Type R costs a lot less than others mentioned. Not sure if its less in quality or performance though?? Depends on the application i guess.

yeah i can get the bp fins for a lot less as you know.

the black projects is on the list because it seems to have good light wind performance and the bp fin i have now is good, grippy and disapears once planing. can't complain.

chris's gear is top shelf tho. i have a lot of confidence that the tribal is excellent even though i haven't used it. ii it aimed more at high wind sailing though.

what i'm chasing is a fin that's grippy at low speed, early planing, has plenty of power when exiting gybes and has a slipperiness upwind and downwind with exceptional top end speed. i feel like that may be the tribal but am not sure of it's low wind merits.

it's hard to find a fin that does all of those things well because some of those things negate the others.
the ultimate fin.....i really don't mind paying for a good fin as long as it'under $300. i rate fins as being very high up the list of importance.

Well just to throw another cat in the bag. Im TOTALLY lovin Select S1PRO. (aka S1 slam evo) MAGIC FIN!! Super slippery, very early planing, awesome control when overpowered flat or choppy water. Have picked up a knot or two in speed. Cant comment on gybes coz im a gumby when it comes to that. But this fin is FULLY LUSH MAN!!! hehe.
I want 2sizes for every board i have. Pricewise i think it sits between BP n Tribal.
Yep Pure Filth!!!

38-40cm for use with a 7.2m simmer vmax in 10-20knots.
board is 125lt 72 wide

so this is my lightwind blasting setup on the bay, flat days in the ocean.

thx for everyones comments.

i ended up ordering a 38cm masterblaster from ML
it was a late to the party contender and in my mind it was between that and the tribal powermax. thought i'd give the masterblaster a go once i started comparing spec. plus martin says his is industrial art. i like art.

no worries martin, happy to support what you're doing and looking forward to doing some blasting with it.

speaking of industrial art, i've recently discovered alkali fins. impressive fins on the water too.
