Ok ive just bought 2014 8m Cheetah. My mast is some ancient 460 Matrix 5 carbon 70 ONE PIECE. Need to replace, 2nd hand if possible. What is going to work? Whats a good brand to look for?

Any constant curve mast will work ...
eg..EZZY ,NORTH ,Goya ,Arotech,gun,simmer ....neilpryde ,flexy top...will work ok too .
try and spend as much as you can ,as having a good mast is your BASE.
i lashed out 13 years ago and got a $85o north 100% sdm .it has been the best thing
i have ever done ...but if you can get a good secondhand 75% constant curve mast for a good price ,go for it

a one piece mast .wow..I would say your next mast will feel sooo good .

Thanks Tardy. So 8m cheetah rigs as 460+ 27cm extension. With my mast 460cc + 30cm ext i cant seem to get high wind setting on leach. No matter how hard i pull. No outhaul. Would this mean my mast is too stiff in the upper section? Not folding away to loosen leach.Have had to move Ezzy downhaul guide right to very top of velco indicator section. A good 100mm above factory mark on sail. No way i can pull it down to that mark.When sailing the other guys are saying more downhaul, more downhaul. Have tried winch, but not sure exactly how hard i should crank it. But i think its more like wrong mast.

Yep ...I would say wrong mast...

you should be able to get something decent for $350-400 (2 nd hand)

your mast is just as important as your sails.

you will see when you get one ,the sail just falls into place ,and you will be able to
sail in stronger winds as well as belly it up with a nice shape for light wind .

i would be ringing your closest windsurf shop.

you have a great sail ....it just needs a good partner .

see if they have any old north mast ...even a older drop shape 60% up too 100% would be perfect .

a new EZZY is $935 .i think..ouch.

Ok so ive done a quick check around. New Hypersonic sdm 460cc 35% $220 on sale. Or used good cond North 460cc 55% $250ish.

great prices ...not to familiar with the hypersonic.only because i haven't owned one ..but i know the north one would rig perfect.
and has more carbon..i would go the north it will give you the correct settings guaranteed ,but your call.

You can also go 60% Ezzy RDM which is much cheaper than 91% and interchangeable. I have the Ezzy 91% but the 60% looks good on a price basis. New $ 690 for a 460 cm 60% which includes 2 year no quibble warranty.

Final point the 2nd hand North 460cm cc 55% sounds like a cheap viable option and probably compatible assuming it is constant curve as I believe North are. I understand Ezzy Cheetah sails work with North masts. Of course if you go with a compatible 2nd hand SDM that will save you dollars and presumably you won't have to convert your mast extension to RDM (costs multiply unfortunately when you go to RDM one off). I would say however I much prefer RDM masts now across the board.

"No outhaul" is part of your problem, downhaul as far as you can, then outhaul the sail, then go back to downhauling, you'd be surprised at how much more you can get. Outhauling bends the mast, making downhauling easier.

Yes you must apply out haul before max down haul ..but with a old one piece mast ,I doubt if it would ever
set right .
it really depends on what you want to spend .
Im a snob and have 100/490 SDM north which I rig my 8.5 on with a luff of 505.perfect.
and the smaller sails have the 90 ezzyRDM mast ,but before that I had a 55 north silver .
and alway got a true reading ,with the down haul specs .and did behave well.

8.0 up I always prefer a SDM .and it works
but 7.5 down the RDM s are better in my view .

it sounds like you just want to hit the water old school with minimal cost .
North have good products .and can vouch for their compatibility .
.at least you have options .

since you now have the sail and have an idea what it is NOT supposed to look like

Yes unfortunately the budget kills the new wish list. So ive got plenty of time to research the market n hunt the bargain.

Heres the One piece Matrix 5 in an old Gaastra Nitro 2. Sets fine. Works a treat to about 25kts. Nice grunty sail.

Not sure if I got this correct, but are you trying to replace your CC mast that does not work in your sail by another CC mast?

Rob11 I think the mast he is currently using is rigged in the pic above with the Gaastra Nitro. If so haven't Gaastra sails required hard top masts for a very long time? If the mast works well with the Nitro that could indicate why you can't the leach to fall off correctly Olskool, as the mast may be too stiff at the top for the Ezzy sail & not bend enough.

Edit: Just had a thought is the mast brand a Killwell? If so that may well be a CC mast as our Cap'n, Decrepit from the Mandurah Mob uses those masts still in KA Koncepts & they are a CC sail. Apparently they are still a very good mast even after all these years.

So heres the mast. Old one piece.
it sets ok in Gaastra Nitro 7.4m. But when in the Ezzy Cheetah 8m i cant get to the highwind setting on leach, no matter how hard i downhaul. So im trying to find out all my options before i purchase a newer 2 piece sdm to suit the Ezzy

But it this way ..with the two piece at least you'll be able to fit it in your car .
go the north mast mate ...you won't regret it .
you probably won't use your gaastra again .
after using the 8.0 with a good mast .

Yep use both north and Ezzy masts on Ezzy lion sails

my Ezzy 7 infinity sets nicely on an older 460 drop shape north

I can read "constant curve" on the photo. That agrees with my understanding of North masts

someone wrote than a NP flexy top mast is acceptable, I think not.

quite a few masts are indeed compatible , a real constant curve works Ezzy sails.

it was me ,who wrote it works ok ..mine is a x6 .heres a photo of me sailing with the pryde mast ..honest it was ok .
but yes CC is the go.

i have found that NP. Both sails and masts belong mostly in their own parade, I do and have used NP sails, and they work very well on HotSails Masts.

David Ezzy, quote, a sail will work on any mast, how well depends on how much range the sail had to begin with and how much you are willing to give up.
