Strange name though AL would (too me anyway) seem to imply Aluminium - they may want to rename that just slightly.

I have 2of these, both with the ergonomic vee grip, this is molded , if that the correct word , into the carbon, not added on.

They are like small jewels , and pretty well custom made.

Pro : near undestructible/ awesome vgrip/stiff as hell
Con : price tag/head quality/sh!t grip : all the fancy writing is not printed, it peels off after 3 months of good use (maybe they changed that since)

Agree the grip is not up to standard.

I'm admiring those brass locking pins given my stainless ones corrode and disintegrate at least once a season.

They changed the grip from the 2015 models onwards. Haven't had any issues with my 160-220 last season.

Also don't get why you mention head quality? My 180-230 had 7 seasons and 150+ sessions and the head was still good. Yes it moved around a bit more compared to when the boom was new but a lot of guys overhere solve that by laminating an extra layer of glass where the head goes.

Also compared to the Severne Enigma 180-230 i'm using now the AL360 head feels stiffer and has nowhere near as much sqeeky noises the Severne head is producing. Plus the v-grip AL has is easier on the hands. I've never had tired hands with the AL booms but since using the Enigma my hands are aching and feel sore after 3 hours. So I'm thinking of switching back to the new AL360 Slalom RTE.

What size grip does the slalom boom have?

With that setup if they're in it to make money they should also look at making cycling components, the markets about 1 million+ bigger than windsurfing, nice looking booms though.

Carbon Slalom Booms:



Traditional/classic boom shapes (Mauisails) with a front curvature closer to the luff, usually comfortable for those that favor an underhand grip on their forward side. Modern C-Shape booms (AL360 and Streamlined) allow the wrist to remain straight, less fatigue in the forearm/wrist especially with a overhand grip. The slightly wider shape up front will deliver more power/control with a more upright rig farther away from the body.

I have 5 x Maui Booms & 1 x Fibrespar Boom, I would swap all of them for 1 x Wave & 1 x Team edition AL360
The AL360 is the best boom I have ever seen

I had a good look at the boom last weekend wow what quality just superior from anything I have seen.
It's strong and light I will be buying this boom next year .

I picked up my new boom today.
the quality is like nothing I have seen before it is increadable .
it is stiff as has a great boom head and tail piece.
it might not be the cheapest boom but it will still be going way after many have given up.
photo I have it over top of Severn and it is wider at front helping with wrist twist and ultimately fatigue.
its also a lot stiffer.

"AL" maybe related to Gran Tourismo Alleggerita (Alfa Romeo). "Alleggerita" is Italian for lightened, modified and in the Alfa GTA meant lightened and modified body, engines and chassis for racing.

A brief update after 9 months of abuse on the AL360 carbon booms:
- obviously as stiff as day one
- grip still in perfect condition (rigged on grass, sand, concrete)
- clips still working perfectly
- no issue of hole elongating on tail piece as these are molded not drilled

Looks great - other than the name which implies aluminium for the english speaking world.

So......what about the $$$ ?

For a good friend of mine, who is very hard on gear, his AL360 carbon boom is his by far longest surviving piece of kit.

He has managed to break basically anything you can think of (including an Enigma boom...) but has actually re-gripped his AL360.

^ +1 for me ! Broke absolutely everything and still regripping my two al360, only downside would be the clips, easily broken and not easily available ;-) (at least from my place)
