A couple of shots of the 6.1 rigged on Team Edition SDM 400. Lets hope for some wind to get it wet soon...

On their website 9 battens is listed but in the pics I am only counting 8?

I take it the difference between a slalom and speed sail is the speed sail is designed to be more stable and rigid to handle stronger winds?

It looks more like 8 and a half battens to me.
I'm puzzled whether this tiny patch of added area below the boom is worth the extra effort of needing the extra batten to stabilize it and having more hassle rigging it.

It is indeed 8.5 battens.
Rigging is a no-brainer, the only difference is to set the final boom length after fitting it on the mast ;)

Not used to such a short boom on that size sail but it seems to work. No backhand pressure, only forward pull.

Compared to the Racingblade it is slightly stiffer (maybe also due to the sail stretching for the first outing, so DH setting may have been off somehow). Once locked in on a downwind run, you only have to worry about board trim and where the next gust is, the sail feel super light and just accelerates wanting more wind.

First time on the Speedbalde, PB for the spot:
