Not much choice here Justin, probably the best is Burrum (opposite the boat ramp).
Gatakers is ok if its got some south in it otherwise its too onshore and creates a horrible choppy mess.
Urangan/Torquay is ok but gusty.

Justin this was last year at Gatakers sailing with Geoff & Darryl in Nov yes its very gusty but worth a go.
I hurt myself this day after getting pulled over the front on a sudden gust.

That was a southerly that day Glynn, in a westerly it blows into the beach
where we rig, making it hard to get out from the shore and creates a horrible
chop.

No you must of got dis-orientated if anything there was a touch of east
in it that day as you can see by the angle you are sailing back to shore.

The best sail I've had locally in a West or SW wind was at Burrum out from the boat ramp. The wind is fairly consistent coming up the river. Gatakers and Urangan are still sailable but gusty (viz. you need to be keen).

do you guys get that many westerlies. I had a look on the wind roses and it doesn't look good.

at gatakers, why not launch near the boat ramp where it's cross shore and probably less gusty??

ok, I'm confused too because it looks nothing like a SE to me. you are on the wrong side of the sail so it must have been W or SW or similar.

This is Glynns track from the video (26/11/2013), wind coming from out of the creek, hope this makes it clearer.

ah, ok yep that's clearer. I thought he was on the other side heading back towards the words gatakers bay in your image. no wonder it was gusty for you guys. that's dead offshore in a SE there.

so why not launch at the boat ramp in a westerly. th ramp just around the point from glynns tracks. in there it is cross shore. is it just a bad launch?

''so why not launch at the boat ramp in a westerly. th ramp just around the point from glynns tracks. in there it is cross shore. is it just a bad launch?''

Looks nice on the picture but very few places to launch and plenty of rocks.

No confusion here Glynn, must be old age

just to be clear and to avoid online confusion.

are you talking about the boat ramp just around the corner from glynns track or the boat ramp up near the restaurant.

Glynn, just watched the video of your flat water session at Yamba. Can you tell me a bit about that spot please? Where did you launch from and where exactly is the 'run'. I'm assuming it was a SE on the day. Looked fast! Cheers, Jack.
