Im not sure that picking up cheap damaged items is the stuff of dreams, more like a nightmare when you find out the board is only good to go to the tip or you rig the sail and breaks immediately after applying normal down haul (given we all now know its stock from a shop fire therefore maximum heat exposure) and then paying 22% extra to this auction house for the crap honour. This is very risky situation, but I think if your willing to take the risk, bid very, very low so if it does turn out to be rubbish you haven't lost too much of your hard earned money (and it could be used for parts).

The other problem will be when someone realises the item is rubbish and tries to resell to get their money back. We won't know that the second hand item is from this huge amount of potentially dodgy stock.

Its a good thing to know when I buy second hand from the local Brisbane store, Simon BC usually knows the history of a board or sail.

In all fairness Carindale, you cannot compare buying a lot at this auction to buying a second hand item off Simon. You buy something off Simon because he's here to stay and has the runs on the board with the windsurfing community. However, buying from this auction is no different to buying off some bloke on Gumtree, in fact at least Lloyds have told us that it's from a large fire insurance claim and could be damaged, that's way more history/honesty than you'd get off some people selling on Gumtree or Ebay.

I just don't want see people thinking they got a great bargain and end up disappointed and out of coin.

Re Simon - I was just pointing out how risky this process is compared to buying second hand with the security of a good shop.

I wouldn't compare this situation to gumtree. It's quite possible that old mate on gumtree is a huge step above this auction house, at least with gumtree you can inspect the goods, (or see better photos), talk to the owner and walk away before money is exchanged.

Where did Lioyds tell us it was from a fire possible smoke and heat damage?

You're right Cocky there was no reference to a fire. It's just that I saw Lloyd's statement "All of these fantastically presented products are the subject of a major retailer insurance claim and varying degrees of water damage may be evident" and then saw clear evidence of what appears to be smoke marks on some of the boards in the photos .......... and then put on my thinking cap and thought "how could a major retailer's inventory become water damaged?" and googled "surf shop fire". Let's call it "due diligence" or maybe just plain old "common sense" ..........

Totally agree with you. If I was seriously interested in an items I would want to inspect it, check it for any damage before having a bid. I just hope all the items that are listed as lots are actually available for inspection....I would be disappointed to drive to GC to check a board and then not be able to see or handle it.

Out of interest - was down the coast yesterday & had a look. Stuff was all of the place & from what I could see not tagged in lot numbers etc. Most of the boards showed signs of soot. A few random photos below.

Again as prior posts have said - really need to inspect for yourself or be prepared to take a risk.

Went for a look today, must say Loydes have not a clue as to how to look after the gear, found a piece of 6foot by 2 foot plywood they were trying to use as barricade on 9.4 serverne.
Took photos of gear I have in mind...Then advised someone in a tie to be more careful as it could come back to bite them if they were to damage something after inspection.

I had look on site too, nothing has lot number on it
You have to ID the product visually, look at the bar code sticker (different to lot number) on the goods and match it up bar code in the online lot description
The auction director tells they have no plans to fix this as they are too busy
I can see there is going to be some dramas on collection, make sure you take screen shot of what you are collecting
(a screen shot or image of bar code is what you are best to have)

They are just loading the rest of the lots onto the website now.

^^ Well thats obvious its had the heat treatment. Bet theres lots of gear thats still good to go.

Mostly all the stuff is OK I think, but stay away from Lot 65, rear end hollow and has no foam to L/H side of fin, quite a tough repair to do I think
