Windsurfers beware of Razor clams which will slice open bare feet. These are fan shaped clams which are very sharp. Today I saw numerous Razor clams in the soft sand and sea grass, directly in front of RQYS. I early autumn, I received two very big cuts in bare feet (which really required stitching) in a 2 weeks period, out the front of RQYS, on the sea grass. I was not sure what caused them at the time. Now I know.

That's a bugger - but on the positive side, they're good bait and great to eat.

No its a public beach, was just looking up recipes myself

I once dragged the top of my toe across one and only noticed when I saw the top of my board covered in blood. Still have the two scares running down the top of my big toe to show for it. The foot strap was blood stained after.
Never stop me from sailing and I had another hour of great sailing at Bribie Island Brible Island but we are a tough lot up here.

Look like they'd slice through a bootie too...All you guys that want to eat them, how about doing a complete sweep of the area and eat them all.

What I was getting at is; they'll get cleaned up lickety-split if you mention it in the right forums. There are signs explaining the rules regarding shellfish collection at Sandstone Point, written in different languages. It's very busy there sometimes.

Yeah surprised they are there, have seen plenty of people in the past collecting shellfish in the area. Once the word is out I bet they get consumed fast.

Mmm maybe we should spread the word about them being in Lake Macquarie I'm not sure if there are enough local's who would eat that sort of thing though ..

And we can tell the Japanese seafood connoisseurs about our blue blubber jellyfish abundance when it happens...Bring in the huge ocean rapist ship, suck em up and take em away boys.

I'm glad those blue things didn't show up at our end of the bay this summer Richie, they were a scourge the previous summer. I'd be stoked if the Sandstone Shellfish Collectors Club would get onto the little blue buggers

Maybe they couldn't get through the weed.

At lake Macquarie I wear booties, walk out keeping feel low near the bottom. If I feel a clam I push it from the side and step on it when it falls over . They break really easily and then fish can eat them.
