Only person out. Gate was securely shut but someone locked me out even though they saw me and my vehicle. I even saw them and waved to not lock me out.it is nearly impossible to unlock from the outside.
As I said, the gate was shut and padlock in place but not locked - I cannot unlock it from the outside as the numbers are too small to see!
If you need it locked when members are out sailing then put a better lock on with larger numbers !!

If its unlocked its not "securely shut" . The chain spins through the gate so there no difference between locking or unlocking from inside or outside.
Nothing wrong with that lock either, its bigger than most and its new, maybe you need a magnifying glass.
The gate is supposed to be locked at all times (as per the big sign on it). If your out sailing and no one else is around locking it is the right thing to do, members store lots of expensive gear in the club. I have and would lock it if one person is out sailing and no one else is around.
The gate is there for convenience, the cost of that convenience is being a responsible member and caring about other members gear and keeping it locked when no one is around. Its not that hard to do.

Respectfully Camm I don't think you get the point.
Unless of course you were there then please accept my apologies, but I do not recall seeing you?
I did not suggest that the lock is faulty, and I was not the last person at the RQ rigging area.
I have been a member for many years, and I also understand the importance of security.
I was merely pointing out the fact that I cannot open the padlock, not because there is an issue with the lock, but because I cannot see the numbers as they are too small (my eyesight is normal for a person of my age - I wear glasses for everyday stuff but obviously cannot wear glasses wen sailing).
I got the attention of the person shutting the gate as I was heading in, but they still locked it so I can only assume:
a. They saw me but decided to ignore the fact I was heading in and locked the gate anyway (a bit rude perhaps?)
or
b. They didn't see me (so they probably can't see the numbers on the padlock either!)
But I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your suggestion - I will carry a magnifying glass with me when out sailing from now on.
I might even buy a few to pass on to the other 60+'s in case they have the same issue..... .

Sounds like a very realistic solution to your 'problem', as you never know when you're going to be the only person out there when the gate is locked! Or you have an issue with your gear & can't see well enough to fix it.Imagine, if that other person had left 5 minutes earlier so you wouldn't even have seen them leaving, they'd still have locked the gate & you'd be just as much locked out?
Please let the club know if you need assistance to open or close the padlock as the gate has to be locked at all time.
Feel free to pass the word around as I am sure the club can assist with this.
Regarding your point, whether that person was being rude or not, he could not assume that you were unable to operate the padlock and did the right thing by locking the gate.
I have my gear stored on-site and I would hate to have it stolen because the access has not been secured.

Not sure why you feel it is necessary to make the same points previously made. I have spoken to camm'd about this and it is now resolved to both our satisfaction.
If you're not sure, feel free to come and speak with me when I'm at the club.

No need.
