My sunday started with a shock - had the alarm set for 2pm as I'm on nightshift. Sleep was rudely brocken by a mobile going off in the house - I'm yelling out to the kids will they turn the volume down!!! Only to discover its Tony txting me that the winds cranking and he's off to Queens for a repeat session. I'm thinking I haven't had enough sleep and cranking can only mean more pain??
Must admit I had increasing anxiety as I watched the surfconnect numbers going up.... 20,21,22.... Plus gusts
Tony got to queens first and called me - bring small gear

. I could hardly hear him above the wind rush on his phone.
I took one look at the white caps and knew this was going to hurt!!
Tony only had his big gear and did his best to make something of the overpowered conditions. Came in after a short run.
I rigged up a 6.3 and thought I'd try a small board as I didn't want to ding my new big board. Had only really planned to practice beach starts and water starts close to the shore anyway. Sail choice was difficult as the wind was very gusty.
I think I picked the peak gusts to try and launch myself - couldn't get control at all. Decided water start would be easier, next thing I know I'm up on an untried board in knarly water stomping all over the 120l and burying it everywhere my foot landed

Ah well was worth a try

. Won't die not knowing!
Wind then died and most of the experts were back in - I decided to go out on the wider board. Didn't really have much of a go, fatigue and the conditions had taken its toll

Had a chat to some of the lads - still great to get out on the water.
Cheers Jeff
