that dropping NE. sailed from fisherman's to butterbox about 6pm then the NE dropped & dropped...was still level with the long reef point and started swimming.
A hour + later finally made it to the surf zone and could see the police on the beach as the westpac chopper was buzzing overhead. gave them the thumbs up and staggered up the beach.
the lifesaving co-ordinator said "we saw you about 2km out but we didn't have any boats available." geez!!! the police gave me a lift back around which was decent.
some crazy thoughts go through your head. can't say I was seriously worried but with impending darkness and fatigue (not to mention fish with big teeth) it's mind over matter. I'm washing up on the closest rocks next time.
