Hello sailors! Would like to know if anyone has tried sailing on Smith's lake and specially
near the lagoon entrance? I was there over the weekend and it looked like it had possibilities in a good northeaster. I imagine using a weedy of course to be sure but wondered if it could be a good spot for some speeding?

havnt sailed there for years but its a great spot when it works , good in east south east for speed sailing and northeasters as well , can be very shallow a lot of the year and limited area to sail in , lots of locals still go there in the right conditions , used to be lots of windsurfing at sandpiper lodge but not sure about recently

Great spot and the lake is full at the moment so you can sail all over it from lots of directions NE, SE, & east.

Quick video I did, not finished but back at work so probably will not get around to it, so here it is.

I go to Sandpiper at Smiths almost every Jan.. superb for SUP/waterskiing etc in the morning and Windsurfing in the afternoon.. generally get at least 8-9 good days sailing out of 14.
These shots are taken from Sandpiper www.sandpiperonsmithslake.com/ in a NE'ster looking across to the sand bar just under 2km away. When the bar is closed like this it's waist deep and flattens off for some blistering runs off the wind.. can get gusty later in the day but still good fun. Here I am using the 2015 Fanatic Falcon 110 with a 36cm fin and the 2015 North warp 7.7m in 18-22knots and 34 degrees! SE'ster is magic as it rips across the sand bar and the water is very flat if the lake is full.. I have used a 6.3m in 25+Knts.. also SW works as it comes up from the right of this shot. Can't wait for next year.. Wallis lake is also good and ten times the size! Highly recommend it. Cheers K3
