Hi Guys,
The 6th and final round of the 2015/16 Raceboard series is on this coming Saturday on Lake Illawarra.
NOTE : One day event (Saturday 12th March)
Rigging Location : Illawarra Yacht Club, Northcliffe Drive, Warrawong - grass area in front of the western car park.
Entry fee : $10 (for people who haven't series entered)
Briefing at 10:30am, first possible race is at 11am. A maximum of 5 races.
Lake Illawarra can suffer from floating weed so it is a good idea to bring a weedy. There was no weed on the race course yesterday (05/03) , but the conditions can change day to day.
Series prize giving will occur after racing, and a meal in the yacht club is planned from about 6:30pm.
See you there .
Will this run of Seabreezes last until Saturday? The points are close all through the table who will come out on top?? See you on Saturday.
Ok my first time at raceboard regatta and have a couple of questions. Firstly given that the forecast looks pretty favourable how long roughly would a race take to compete (given I will be at the back of the fleet) and secondly do we come in from the water for a lunch break ?
Many thanks
The front of the fleet will usually get around the course in about 25mins, some times more sometimes less. I think there's a maximum of 5 races in a day and a maximum of 3 back to back, so generally you will do 2 or 3 races come back to the beach for lunch and then do another 2 or 3, but of course this all depends on the conditions.
Hi Dave,
We had a great day to finish the series, and it was great to see the largest fleet of the year (24 boards in the water). Let's hope we can start next season with the same size fleet or more!
Congratulations to James Grunfelder (1st), Doug Maclean (2nd), Richie Reynolds (3rd) and Lissa McMillan (1st lady) for the series. Well sailed to you all in what was a fun but closely fought out series.
Really enjoyed yesterday. Great bunch to sail with. Plenty of encouragement and advice offered to those 'learning the (raceboard) ropes like myself.
Thank you all.
As John has indicated above, it was a great end to the series with our largest fleet of the season, warm & sunny weather, and enough wind to complete 5 hard fought races.
We started off at about 11:30am with the breeze from the ENE at about 5-8 knots , slowly building to about 10 knots for the second race. After about an hour's lunch break we were back out on the water at about 2:30pm for 3 more races. The wind may have been 12 knots with some gusts a bit more for these races - enough to get on the plane on the downwind legs.
Close racing was the order of the day, all through the fleet, with upwind tactics at a premium and downwind pumping fitness important.
Richie Reynolds reveled in the conditions, taking the round win from James Grunfelder and Doug Mclean.
A big thank you to Nick & Ron for making the most of the light winds with spot on courses and keeping us in order on the water.
RESULTS - Round 6
For the series there were 6 rounds with one round drop. These results have excluded sailors who only competed in one round.
Congratulations to James Grunfelder for taking the series win in what was the most fiercely fought season in recent memory.
Also congratulations to Lissa McMillan for taking out the top Lady trophy.
A big thank you to series sponsors, Starboard and Severne for providing some well appreciated prizes.

WOW! thats awesome all those FB pictures. So many out sailing. We are over crowded here with more than 2 on the water!
Next summer we will have at least 4 boards available to sail with the yacht club . 3 Mistrals 1 Bic. I have to find captains for them now and look for more boards.
One day we might get a full fleet (I think i read 5 was the min number)
For NSW racers who may be interested.
Alongside the RB Worlds we are running
Bic Techno 293 Oceanic Championship
Division 2 Oceanic Championship
and Open Windsurfing festival for any raceboards that don't fit the above categories.
Open Festival will have a sail limit of 7.8 and 2 board length categories, (over and under 3m).
Other categories may be included depending on entries.
