Hoping to get to Primbee in the next few weeks.
How long does the W season last down there.. Looks like a bit of wind this week but not sure whether to wait for a bigger front ( want to try a speed board).
Worried if I put it off the fronts might be more from the SW which I've been told isn't as good for down there?

I'm not sure you'll get any more certainty than this week Sue. Of course there's always a chance it's not going to happen, but this week looks like a pretty good chance of something.

Anyway, hopefully it's as good as this...

BTW, I prefer Primbee in a SW as you can bareaway the whole way from Windang to the carpark, which is about 2.5klms or so. That's a long way to be going flat stick off the wind. You'll get a run that you won't forget for a long time.

Whats the most accurate graph for the area ( looking at the Illawarra seabreeze current wind graphs).
Also any hazards in the area- I remember someone circling a log or something on one of the sessions but can't find the actual session.

Hi Sue.

Albion Park Airport is the one to watch. Ignore Bellambi Point - it can be entirelly misleading in a westerly.

Most of the known objects are marked with floating buoys. Rumour has it that there is something lurking about 200m west of the tied up paddle ship on the shore - I think both Matt and Bushy hit something there.

The depth is quite consistent in it's graduation into the shore so simply start wide, cop a bit more chop, do a few stops and check the depth for yourself, watch where everybody else is sailing and then slowly work your way in based on your level of comfort / risk appetite. You normally get a fair bit of warning before truly running aground - mostly the 'chick, chick' of your fin tip striking pebbles and shells in the top layer of mud. Right down close to shore at the southern end I'm told there are some mild sandbars that see the depth drop by 5cm within a metre of so, but I've never been in that close to find out.

I normally sail with a 29cm draft fin so tend to stay out wider. Most people sail 25ish cm fins. At the other end of the pack, MT and some of the delta fin sailors are around the 20cm mark.

Lake was very low last week but filled up considerably when I stopped in yesterday. IF the water is lapping the first koppers log, then that indicates the lake is at nearly full depth and you'll find it hard to get into trouble.

Eckers.

Thanks! Still to check the forecast but aiming to head down there to sail Wed/ Thurs this week. Hopefully there will be some locals out for me to follow and keep me company!
What's this hot food / drink van I hear people referring to? Is it real or hallucinations from the cold..

I think it could be a wood log that I spotted while looking for the lost boom. I did not have the strength to remove it , but I took a mark and forgot:

S: 34, 30',44"
E:150, 52',11"

I also have a kmz file for google earth with that mark if anyone interested I can email it.

I've never sailed Primbee, but am planning to head down there tomorrow. Have bought a weed fin and am itching to use it! And I'm keen to see if the rave reviews of this spot from the Kyeemagh gurus are accurate.

Not what I need in the back of my mind while fanging along at Primbee. I won't be baring off in that vicinity

add the mark to your gps and you can set an alarm or navigate to it and remove the log, it's not too heavy, but that day i was exhausted
