That's really good news, but judging by Jimbob's tracks on 9/2/17, he is sailing in parts of the lake you could drive on in 2015.

That's what happened in 2012. Two years after the drought ended, the weed grew strongly and it was perfect.

Perhaps everyone other than locals should stay away this year to give the weed the best chance to grow and we may see a perfect lake next year.

Why? There is nobody here. Sailed with Jimbob & 4 of us and im sure we didnt do any damage. Its not close enough to the surface.

Great trip Glen, overnighted in Ballarat this time. Sailed Saturday arvo then most all of Sunday. Launching from a new spot that has 270degrees of accessibility to the wind. Mike and I mountain biked today all over and around the lakes, 31km all up. We ended riding ride out to the Spit. Came across a curious brown snake and LOTS of emu tracks about 1.5m to 2m apart so the bird was in full flight!!
Tomorrow looks like a good northerly just for something different so we'll be hopefully on the water by 7:30ish.
Missing all the Illawarra boys, even the shopowners, well the coffee shop lady down by the pier anyway, said she didn't think there were many windsurfers around this year. So so quiet, it's bliss!!
Friday will be another good day and possibly Saturday. I don't know why people are staying away, there's plenty of water and wind.

It blocks sunlight and reduces weed growth.

Four of you for a few days isn't going to do any harm, but a horde of campers for two weeks will, especially when the lake is much lower.

I was there in the good years at the peak times and saw no evidence of detrimental effect from windsurfers except in the walk-in, walk-out area near Cockies, and even that was surprisingly minor. The water stayed clear and the weed was just the same in that area the next year.

Where and when the lake is deep, there is probably no effect whatsoever.

After the summer we've had... im glad lake george was full and bugger all weed....cause there's been bugger all wind..fingers crossed for next summer...

SE wind forecast for the coming week at LG. Hmmm..... tempting.

Don't risk it Daffy, its toooooooo full!!!!!!!!!! Ask anyone who hasn't been there.

Had a good sail there in Jan with JB and max. Pulled some 38's peaks.
Yes the lake is full, however the spit is working, its normally too shallow, so its still good fun. There is no long walk out and the salinity levels are low, so the water is some what pleasant.

The spit will give about a 200-300m run of flat water, then you have to turn and head backup. To get upwind enough for the next run you have to go beyond the split, which means pushing through the chop - not much fun but do able. I was using my 55cm JP speed/slalom, 5.6R7 and a 23cm SS fin. A speed board would be usable, but not optimal through the chop. Here's a photo of JB on that day

I went to the Water Connect SA website to get the latest records from the LG monitoring stations and found that the Middle Lake monitoring station is down again and has been since the middle of last year.

I checked the Big Lake station and it has not been recording water levels for some time either.

I contacted the authorities in charge and the person I spoke to promised to make enquiries an get back to me soon. I shall report here when I have something.

The big lake station was moved up to the Sandhills end ages ago it now won't get any good readings from any wind with S or W in it.
Water has dropped a bit.
