Someone had to start this off!

What's the GO this year?

Lake conditions?

Should we have an unofficial comp like 2012?

Super keen as always and great to catch up with all the locals!

I just checked the water level of the lake and it looks like it is lower now than it has been at the same time the last couple of years. Of course that doesn't mean it will stay that way, but hopefully, it will end up lower in Feb than last year!

the lake wasn't opened to the sea this winter just like the good years.

fresh water flowing in stopped 6 weeks ago and level peaked lower and 5 weeks earlier.

Lake George is big. Most of the time people are sailing in the shallow, smaller part of the lake, close to town. The larger part of the lake is huge and much deeper.

Yes, but the shallow middle lake is where the really flat water is!

Bonominator, I found that catching up with the locals earlier this year slows your speed.

Other years over January - March (excluded some other wind directions)

37.9 knots SSE 1st March 2010 (Coincidence?)
32.1 knots SSE 9th January 2011
39.1 knots SSE 1st March 2012 (As I remember it the water was too shallow by then, but there were a few nice 30 knots days in Jan/Feb)
32.1 knots S 11th February 2013 (hard to find a strong SSE in this year but I personally measured some pretty steady 30 knots SE-SSE days )
37.9 knots SSE 3rd February 2014 (I think that was Jacques Port tack day and as I remember it, the water was still too deep for best conditions)

I am slightly surprised at the strength of the SSE Max's. If it was more than an isolated gust it certainly indicates that higher speeds than have been so far recorded may be theoretically possible. Its always the way though isn't it. If you are not in the right place at the right time it might as well never happen! And then the water level and weed level will still have to cooperate.

So yeah, the place sucks. You might as well all stay home to avoid the frustration!

3rd and 4th of Feb 2014 was an awesome days

This was taken fairly early on in the afternoon of the 4th when the wind was only about 25 knots. (picked up later)

Jac did 46knots that day .

Videowill give you an idea of the water conditions in the middle of the lake and how smooth it gets clsoe to the weed banks.

I would rate those water conditions 5 out of 10 for Lake George, that is choppy! until you experience LG at it's best you'll agree.
