elmo said.. Dropped by the the Safety Bay pond today and was stunned once again to see the changes.
So I thought I'd have a look at historical Satellite images got a bit carried away and created a GIF to animate
Figured it out, cant load GIF's
Nice work Muppetman. What caused or why has the sand bar rotated through 90 degrees like that - was there a big storm or something because most of the change seemed to happen in one frame jump? Or is down to all the kiters
Every new summer I notice the change since the last.
Im sure theyre gonna waste more time dredging in the remaining summers it has left, as soon as they realise the dredging theyve done isnt going to last long.
30+ years ago(holy sheet, that's a scary revelation) there wasn't a sand bar
Underneath the western side of the sand bar in front of the toilet block there is a jetty which the crayboats used to fuel up from and we'd snorkel all the way down to the boat ramp looking for crabs, occy and flounder there was no sand bar.
Most likely in the next 10 years it will fold and join back up with the land again and the pond/ sandbar will be gone once again
the worst change is the 2,000 nob head kiters that 'boost' them self, and drop their lines in front of you whilst screaming abuse at you for sailing in there water space.
Good work Elmo. There used to be a sandbar there more than 30 years ago though. I lived near the Yacht club, i'm still in the area too. Been sailing here since late 80's. It did though used to get covered at high tide. I have many a photo and video from the area showing the vastly different looks of the area. AFAIK the sand is coming from Long Point, that has eroded a huge amount. There has always been a bar there and a submerged one which goes a long way out to sea. I'll see what photos i can find and post up if people are interested.
