Came across this photo in Buy & Sell....would love to have a car load of these...mmm, maybe next year. What caught my eye, was the configeration of the adjustable out haul lines. There appears to a rope/line running around the boom head and joining to the opposing side of the out haul. Is that correct and if so, what is the purpose and how does it work?

A bit of stretch cord around the mast and connected to the ends of the outhaul rope. Stops them getting tangled around the boom

I just tie the loose end to my harness rope. The only issue with this is you may run out of adjustment if you keep adjusting on alternate sides when racing. In my case, I have it set up on one side only for speed sailing.

Awesome. Thank you for that. Wasnt expecting something as effective with a simple solution. I wont have to curse now, every time I go to release the out haul on a downwind run and you spend the next minute or so un-wrapping the line from around the boom arm !!!

Ive only used AO a few times. 9.5m Severne Raceboard sail. Have the ends tied to rear HL either side. Planing into a gybe unhooked HL, leaned into to begin gybe. Got yanked over as slack AO got caught on harness hook. Might try the bungee method.

I tired the bungee method and it was annoying for a variety of reasons I cannot remember.
I have a loop of velcro around the boom arm between the harness line and the cleat and I tuck the handle end of the AO into that - you can adjust the position of the velcro loop to suit.

the velcro strip open

the velcro strip closed

you can move it whatever distance from the cleat you like so it doesn't get in the way

The velcro strips - one for each side - sew about 5 cm of hooked velcro part to about 10 cm of the loop part. Hook side up, loop side down so they will connect when you wrap it around..
