My mast base that you screw into the track has been playing up lately. It looks ok but I have to screw it really tightly to prevent it from going forward to the front of the track as I sail.
Its then so tight I can't undo it and have to get help..
..
Anyone had that problem or suggestions to help fix it ?
I hadn't thought of that..I was going to check the board but it's in it's bag on the car [}:)] ready to sail if the wind comes up later..
.
I'll check when i use it..So just adding nonskid should help? i THOUGHT MAYBE SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE SCREW SETUP BUT AS I SAID IT LOOKS OK TO ME ( BUT i'M NO EXDPert)
B caps lock..sorry Im not going to retype it..grr
Also check the bottom plate or disk of your mast base itself.
If its just slippery plastic this wont help.
You can always get some old boom grip or very thin rubber and contact cement some on to prevent slippage.
If you have had it for more that 2-3 seasons, buy a new one or prepare to have plenty of swimming practice when it breaks.
Think its only 1 season old. Thread seems? ok. The plastic plate , shim thingie is very slippery/shiny underneath - is that normal? If not can it be fixed easily or can you buy another part?
The Chinook twin bolt base has a sliding mechanism to lock the uni into the base. Its pretty easy to use. The Chinook base is one that has stood the test of time.
Sue they are talking about about the "two bolt base" - being two bolts into the mast track ............ not the age old europin (which u like) vs US cup argument.
The two bolt base prevents problems like you have encountered with slipping, or doing it up so tight you cant undo it.
I don't like the two bolt base as you can't move it to the extremities of the mast track (reduces range of adjustment a lot). Lots of modern boards need the base waaaaay back in the track so you just can't get there. Plus two bolt bases encourage the 'bung it in the middle and leave it there' mentality. IMHO that reduces peoples enjoyment a lot as they never realise just how good things can be with a tune.....
I've never had a one bolt system slip even on a board with all the deck non-slip worn off. But I probably do it up tighter .....
Thus I say stick with one bolt spinny system base but as suggested put some rubber on the plate with contact adhesive, make sure your non slip on the board is good, or even just a bit of self stick foam like used on doorframes, anything.
If it hasn't already got a washer under it then get one as that will help when loosening.
The washer will be the same diameter as the base & about 1.5mm thick black plastic.
