I have the locosys gw60 gps watch( black with yellow accent color)
any interetesed in one ? I used this a few times. haven't used in quite a few years.
great condition....I know people have had bands breaking. mine is in excellent condition.
anyway...if someone is looking for one. I dont know what they are worth anymore. (I am not looking for top dollar).
Frank
GW60s can be an excellent device if looked after.
Apart from the batch of bad straps, their other problem is the buttons. When pressed wet they can let moisture/water onto the internal contacts, which only being copper corrode badly. this means at some point this button stops working.
The only way to tell if this is a possibility is to pull the watch apart and check. Not something I'd want to do to a good looking watch.
If the watch has been idle for several months, and all the buttons still work. the chance of corrosion is low.
The battery is another thing that can degrade over time. From memory a full battery gives about 8hrs of use, but I'm very vague about that.
Sorry. I've no idea what it's worth, now we have the FR255 approved, it's value just dropped.

Is this the FR255 you're referring to?
yes that's the one. or the music version, which maybe a bit cheaper.
The music version was showing as $709 on the same web page.
The 255 Music is readily available in stores for $399. The way I understand it, the Music has built-in wifi so can install Garmin updates.
disregard.....I picked the watch up and the band broke in half. oh well. was hoping someone could have used it...rather than getting thrown out.

It looks like the discounted price of $399 has come to an end. Are you still aware of anybody still selling them at this price?

Broken strap GW60 watches still have some value. I used mine in an aqaupac for several years.
Yes, I ordered one from JBHIFI a week ago for $398 via Austpost.
skyking1231: The GW60 is a very serviceable unit. I've replaced the battery twice in my GW60, and fixed my band twice. The second battery is an upgrade that gives me 10 hours of operation. At some stage though, the band will break, and it is going to fall off during a sesh. Then it will be Davy Jones locker for it.

That sale has ended the JB Hifi Price is $749
Now the sale of the FR255 has ended, the price just went up again, even with a broken strap, it will still be useful in a Pacqua
The GW60 is a great device, thanks to a precise GPS. I am using a Coros now, but it's not got a precise GPS but rather (so I was told) a software that just cuts the peaks, so you throw away both spikes and real speed recordings. Though you still can download the .gpx file it records and do the analysis by yourself. The GW60 instead just provides good readings.I don't know about the FR255, but I can't figure out Garmin providing any good GPS device. I suspect it works the same way as the Coros. Hope I am wrong.
I've found the GW60, Motion and DIY-GPS to be very reliable and constantly close to each other. So much so, I don't care from which device I uploaded to GPSTC. I'm still on the fence with the Garmin 255.
The 255 has the disadvantage of only being 1hz and not providing accuracy numbers.
Typically when comparing ublox devices, we see differences of 0.05kts between them.
The 255 typically gives differences of 0.1
I haven't done anything with the Coros.
So I guess that means the 255 is half as accurate as the motion or DIY devices.
It's a while since I did anything with the GW60, but I'm sure it's a bit better than the 255 as it's 5hz, but not as good as the motion. It only uses 1 GNSS, instead of the 3 the others use.. So the GW60 can suffer where there is poor or limited satellite coverage.
Plus, I don't think the GW60's antenna is very high gain, and I'm guessing this unit has very low processing gain. Plus, it's on the wrist, and its antenna could be facing the water on a given tack.
The antenna isn't quite as bad as you'd think, being on the band it still has some sky view with underhand grip. Yes you can tell what tack you're on by the accuracy data, but there's not a significant difference.
Where as the 255 antenna is under the display, so could be facing the water, but the multiband software seems to sort that.

The GW60 antenna is also directional. So when it is facing the sky it has very good reception. When tested in controlled conditions against the GW-52 and the Motion, it was very excellent. But the wrist wearing does degrade it performance. Sometimes it is still excellent, but at other times it can be not so good, depending on the conditions and how it is orientated. When worn facing the sky properly in a bicep bag, it can perform very well.
My GW60 still functions but the connecting cable is faulty. When cable connected to watch it will charge but will not connect to Laptop to download data.
Anyone going to Lake George between 1st Feb and 9th Feb have a cable that they no longer need that I could borrow whist I am there?

I've got this same problem few years ago.
Raplaced the cable ordering it through gp3s and the data connection turned ON again.
Not sure if this is still available there but googling it i see some on midwestspeedquest.com
Decrepit & SQ: It could be my unit that sucks then. But my point was, the designers at Locosys have compromised performance over packaging to make it become a watch.
Jacko: I'll give you a call.
I have two gw-60s, and two cables neither of them will connect to the app, but they will charge. I have tried all manner of cleaning compounds on the watch terminals and the charger buttons. Having said that, check that all the buttons on the charger are coming all the way out.

Same here. It sucked and din't work anyway.
Fastest thing to do is to replace the cable...
I windsurfing buddy gave me his locosys because the band broke. I found somewhere online the files to 3d print this (it attaches to the mast):
Clever, there is a need for them. Is there a gap for the charge clip? Maybe it would work better attached to the boom?

If new cable does not work, but might be worth pulling off the back cover and inspecting the spring contacts.
