No I don't use contacts when sailing. Gave up on contacts about 15 years ago. It was such a relief to just slip on a pair of glasses after stuffing around with contacts for about two years.
Every year I get one or two pairs of glasses care of our private health care and chucking in about $50 a week. So they cost about $1250 a pop.
I have been using disposable contacts for many years, probably only every lost one or two in that all that time.
The only time contacts will wash out is if you open your eyes underwater. When you fall in you generally close your eyes anyway so its not a problem.
I used to, and no problems. I never wore glasses anywhere unless my eyes were sore from contacts. I don't know how anyone sails in glasses, but I guess you get used to it.
The only difference is you have to develop the close your eyes before going under water reflex, which I figured out years ago after washing a few out.
I got laser surgery, so now I don't need to close my eyes, but there's nothing to see anyway ;-)
I wear contacts without issue,just keep a spare lens in the glovebox as I have crashed a few times and the lens has been knocked out,no fun sailing one eyed if your not used to it 
I used to wear contacts until I heard about a bacteria thing that can make you blind that gets stuck behind the contacts.
Now all contact boxes have warnings on to not wear in water, the parasite eats into your retina, it can come in your bath water let alone fresh and salt water. It is very rare but is it worth taking the risk. Its only because the contact traps it that it starts to bury itself, if you take them out at the end of a session and put fresh in or wash them in saline then there is no problem wearing them in water.....its only if you keep them on for a prolonged period.
I used to wear contacts all the time. I used to go out in the surf then and it didn't take long before I opened my eyes underwater and lost one .It cost me $70 ( which was a fair bit back in the 90's). After that I got disposables at least then it was only $10 a pop. As others have said you should be able to train yourself to keep your eyes shut.
I found using contacts great other than that.
Since then I had a problem with an allergy to my horse which had a side effect that stopped me using contacts.
In flat water I wear prescription sunnies.Just make sure you drill a hole in the end of the arm to tie some fishing line through which ties to a glass tie.I only attach one end of the tie to the glasses the other gets tied to my wetsuit leash. A Gath helmet also helps keep things in place. Rain X helps avoid vision problems. Good in that they are polaroid so I can see the shallows and sharks better..

I've worn contacts for 20 years sailing, swimming in the surf and playing rugby. I am blind without them. I used to were the 14 day ones that you take out every night and lost a few of those over the years at the bottom of a collapsed scrum or maul but never in the water. Now I use the B&L 30 day ones and they are sensational. Put them in, leave them in night and day for about a month, throw them away and start again. They are a bit more expensive than normal contacts but they are super comfortable and you save money on lens solution.
Have a -1.25, -2.5 prescription and sailed for years without glasses before getting contacts. Wondered why I never managed to chop hop - got contacts and what do you know - could see the ramps
Have used Focus Dailies for years and only lost a couple in the early days through not closing your eyes before hitting the water. That lesson was reinforced when I ventured into waves.
They improved the design and called them Aqua-comfort plus a couple of years back. Actually found those less comfortable and started to lose lenses frequently. Have managed to source the original Focus Dailies and all good.
