I just went to load my sail and rotten little black ants have set up shop. Will insect repellant hurt the sail? NX sailworks..

Little buggers. I'd sugest an echidna up the luff tube, but the spikes might not be good for the sail.

Insect repellant might discolour or cloud the clear polyester film. Put a potpourri of something ants don't like in the bottom of the sailbag maybe.

By your avatar I'd say you must be in the know re insects....Not sure what they don't like.I'm packing the car now. I've unrolled the sail and swept most of them away but they're up the luff tube.. grr I might risk some repellent on the non clear areas. Its my partners car and I don't think he'd be impressed if I introduced an ant colony..

I have heard they don't like talcum powder. using the sail might discourage them as well.

I had some move into my fax machine a few years ago. took me ages to get them and their eggs all out.

I hosed the crxp out of my sail and luff sleeve when I unrolled a rats nest; little washing detergent broom scrub and hose off.

..They've been in my studio for ages and I just ignored them. That will teach me!
I'll keep the talc idea for next time.. I was too impatient and brushed most of them off then insecticide up the luff tube & on mylar(?) then wiped it off. Still a few around so I hope they don't cause too much problem. It's my large 7.2m cammed sail so the first time I use it will drown them all in the luff tube..[}:)]

The talc idea works a-treat as a barrier, but not too sure about as a cure.

I don't think they like water. Drown them.

I had this problem with some Gaastra race sail protos given to me years ago. Hundreds and hundreds of the little buggers. Just hung the sail up and hosed the **** out of it. it seems they like the glue in the sails as they are glued before stitching.
Not much you can do about it, although keeping them doen up tight in bags is a big deterrent.

Try ant dust, just sprinkle a bit around where you keep your sails.

We had a massive problem in an old kitchen and the dust seems to keep them away. Its dry powder so it shouldnt hurt the sail but try and put around where you keep them not on them.

A double forward might scare them away.

Might not just be the ants on a second thought…

Might have to try that. they migrated from the window frame in front of the computer in the studio to out where the sails are..I sailed yesterday but there was too much wind to use the big sail..I think I got the little buggers anyway..
