"If the board gets at the wrong angle it can flip over and that's what happened one day...I held onto the board and floated, thinking what do I do now. "

Pretty mental - his board flipped over!

Are there any crocks in that river ?
It may help to keep balance on the board

Sounds like an opening in the market for a new crock proof board design macro

Good on him I say

Regarding sailing on the Murray. I was sitting by the river at Mannum last summer on a seabreeze (an entrapped family day). The wind was blowing along the river - about 20 knots from the conditions. I thought wouldn't it be good if I had my gear..... Interesting concept, but Mannum is 60km, when I could to go to my local where the wind is less dodgy.

Windsurfing and holidays along the Murray are some of his favourite memories.

"Windsurfing was just a hobby for me in my younger days. I bought one of the very early windsurfers to be made in Australia and had a lot of fun on that and I thought I could turn that into a longer project," he said.

Looks like he's still got it (the windsurfer that is).

But good on him..the world needs people to challenge themselves and it sounds like its for a good cause.

just needs to float. the current will sort out the trip down.
and the snags.
and the ski boats.
and the paddle steamers.
and the locks.
and the snakes.
and the swimmers.
and the houseboats.
and the no wind.
and the bridges.

I think by 'windsurf down the river' he really means 'float down the river with the current'. Hence the ropes provide a bit more 'grip' on the water to take advantage of said current ^_^ barn please provide ms paint/hand sketch FBD for truths >_>
