I have been looking at this trolley online, wondering if it would make an ok windsurfer trolley....

My plan is: I lay my windsurfer board on top with fin upwards, and then lay the really long mast (one piece) and sail and all my other stuff on top of the board, then tie it all on using some rope, then use the end of the mast to push (or pull) it up the street a few hundred metres and onto the sand at Lady Robinson Beach (Botany Bay).

I also see a different sort of trolley at anaconda, it costs a lot more though...

Do you reckon either of these would work ok? Any other trolleys I should consider? I'm not much of an engineer/DIY expert so that's why I'm looking online!

That first one, and the way you described how to use it is perfect.
There is this place we used to windsurf called "Killers", but it's a very long way from where you park, to the water's edge. In fact is so far that even though you can plainly see it, it's hard to judge which sail to rig, so rigging one sail, in hopes that it's the right one was a crap shoot. Enter the "Killer cart", all were home made but looked just like the first one you linked to, not very big, just wide enough to strap a board onto, only two wheels, and using a mast as a handle just like you described. That way you can take several sails, and even more than one board if you wanted. If we had those carts available to us for only $40, we all would have had those. A two piece mast would work just as well, if you need the entire length, just tape it at the joint.

-The towing arm that connects to the bike comes off
-The sides are mounted by pins and they collapse for easy storage
-The weels are also attached with removable pins
-I put all my gear e.g. helmet, harness, extention etc in the basket and put the board, sail, boom, mast on top securing with couple of tie-downs from bunnings.
-I push it holding the mast and because the weight is centred on the axis there is hardly any load on my arm...I can walt a km with that with no probs.

Heres my Grade 11 metal work version.Made it 30+years ago, before i had a car. Alloy frame stainless axle.
It can carry 12ft tinny, Canadian canoe etc. Sailboard wise i used to strap board n gear to it use mast as drawbar. Connect mast to bike seat pole with a hitch i made from pvc pipe. Away you go. Ride where ever you want.

They look pretty good for the money!
Back in the day, for us groms it was a golf buggy with the bag chucked away - still like a vee shape with axle at the bottom. Trouble is they are a bit high so if towing behind a bike it flips over on corners unless you are very careful.
These look low and wide enough to solve that issue.

I had one for a kayak i owned. The issue with the 1st type is that it lacks a proper tie down point. So if you're using the Kayak/Board as the steering/connection point, they can slip and start tracking sideways into curbs and small children.
The 2nd option would be my bet. Extend the draw bar with some ali tubing and rivets or wood broom stick to keep the board and gear further away from the bike

i have 1 the same as the first 1 but mine comes with a strap i used it for my long boards .the strap rubs on the wheel and the frame slips every were,the wheels get bogged in sand and it will slip of the board .to fix it you need a large piece of ply that is wider than your board and 2 straps ,it was a total waste of money ,the one were you put the nose through has lot of twist and can dent your board .i think bhc has the best option

For that you can get 2 BMX wheels on forks from the tip, and about 20m of steel new, to get a mate to weld up whatever you want.
Geez, even bolt it all together if you don't have a mate who can do bird**** welds like mine .

I don't see the issue with the first one BTW, the board will not slip on the foam if strapped on well...?

I've seen a groovy one made out of 50 mm pvc tube and joins. Didn't have a close look but it had BMX type wheels.

Check out kayak trolleys. The one that you are looking at must also be wide enough for your board. I used a kayak trolley and tie down straps to move 2 boards and rigs from caravan park to rigging area in Augusta. About $80 from a good outdoor camping shop.

Have one. No good in soft sand, got it to drag SUP and a board with gear in one hit
Remedy is to grab some PVC large pipe off cuts, any recycle center will have these.
Wider the better, and will fit over tyres. Deflate tyre, install pipe, inflate tyre to good internal grip level

Thanks everyone for all this input. Much appreciated! I got hold of an inexpensive kayak trolley so when we get some agreeable weather, I'll try it out and hopefully have me some fun at the beach.
