If I'm going well probably 13hrs a month in peak season..not enough..probably spend almost as much time on here..![]()

Right now or after I get to sail this afternoon? ![]()
Actually doing a quick calc after 4 years in the GPSTC:
11400kms = 6156Nm so say averaging a conservative 14knots/hour across the 350 odd sessions that equates to about 440hours only. Geez I need to sail more.
Don't really want to calculate what it has cost me per hour although just say if I have spent about $15k (including deduction for selling gear) in the last 4 years that equates to $34/hr.......
I keep a log. It's 1200 hours since December 2003. I don't have my records with me but the peak would be 180 hours a year and the minimum would be 70 hours a year.
During summer I get out every night after work. During winter it averages every weekend but that is sometimes two days in a weekend and sometimes no days.
Keeping a log is good for a couple of reasons. One is it is nice to look back and see what you did years ago, how much use you got out of a piece of gear, where you went. The other is it is an incentive to ride a bit longer in each session.
When I take off I glance at my watch. If during riding I look at my watch and it only shows 35 or 45 minutes elapsed then I push harder and ride out to the full hour. I might ride a couple of km up the coast to stretch the time out. Many sessions that started out kind of dull end up exhilarating because I've done something fun with it.
Once I take off I rarely stop or come back to the beach so all my hours are actual riding hours. I guess it's no surprise that people who claim to do 4-5-6 hour sessions often spend most of that time chatting on the beach.
I'm almost double Sausage's Kms but over 5.5 years of the GTC, using Sausage's calculation that puts me about 900hrs.
About 160hrs a year
Not sure about the previous 20 years, may not have sailed quite as much, lets say 150hrs, that's another 3000hrs, so I guess a bit under 4,000hrs all up
You're all short of the 10,000 hrs it takes to be an expert at something.

i might be lucky to be 1/3 of the way there.
Started in September this year, Almost out every Saturday, so atleast 2-3hrs on the water per session so about 30hrs total or there abouts so far.
what is the poipose of zis question ?
how much time do you spend not on the water ? ![]()
more importantly - how many sessions did we miss cuz blah blah blah ![]()
in the summer i manage to go out twice a week - as long as possible ...60 * in 2012
what interests me more - what is the most used equipment for your weight
220 lbs and most used sail was an MS-2 8-oh free-race
on Fanatic Ultra CAT and BIC Techno Formula
The last 12 months stuff all but before that about 4 hours a week. Having said that the kids are older the wife has interests so things are looking really good for 2013 and she has given the green light for new kit yeah can't wait
When I started out 8 years ago I was told that it would take 20 hours on the water to get planing. So I logged my 20 hours in 4 straight days to meet that milestone. It nearly killed me physically but it was a great feeling.
With three kids now I reckon I'm lucky to get 10 hours on the board a season.![]()
I am assuming that this means actual time on water, and not time spent waiting for wind, re-rigging and having a social chit chat on the shore?
getting less and less every year ![]()
