Tried my new harness today and wow! What a difference - locked in, effortless, supportive secure.. Cripes should have got one years ago..
My old 1991 Dakine speedseat is nowhere near as supportive.
I think I'll be holding down more sail from now on but the stacks may be worse..
I got a Prolimit pure Girl windsurf seat harness and for the women reading they are great!
Bring on the wind! With my easy uphaul + new harness the 7.2m will be tamed..

^ I agree. Next time you have problems, list all your equipment first and we will see if we can identify what it is that's the problem.

Do you have anything that you use sailing that predates 2000? If so, what is it, and when are you replacing it?

.. No I think I've upgraded most..hang on I have a 3.2m sail that gives me the s..ts..Its really twitchy and needs a consistent 30kts to be fun.. but I only use that c 4 times a year so I don't want to spend the $ upgrading + buying a mast..
I put the harness in to get mended ( it broke last sail) so I could have it as a spare but I'll have to be desperate to use it..No wonder I found the big cams sails so uncomfortable!I'm looking forward to my first time with the big gear , new harness and easy uphaul.. ( must be getting old & lazy....).
I remember the first time my riding instructor suggested sticky bum jodphurs & chaps ( easier to not slide around riding) I felt I was cheating but these days I'll take anything that makes life easier..

I have since been kicked out of the riding instructors directory

(never ridden a horse in my life anyway)

Can't wait to try my new harness now. Maybe I'll get that 30 knots I've been trying for?
The harness I have been using is about 20 years old too.

They are brilliant! Thanks to everyone who suggested them.Got a headache today - can't blame the harness now I've just got to concentrate on keeping my upper body relaxed ( a bit hard overpowered in chop)..

It was if your board was too big ( and you've been spoilt at canton)..It was a great sail though..

Can you tell me where you get the Prolimit pure harnesses from? In Perth they only sell the kitesurfing ones not the windsurfing one. Thanks.

Sboardcrazy glad you got hold of a puregirl harness you will love it.

Ruth I think if you ask any of your local windsurfing shops they will be able to order you in the windsurfing one. My local shop only has the kite ones too but I asked them the other day and they are happy to order me one which I might have to do soon as mine is wearing out.

Windforce can get them in for you but you need to ask. They just got one in for me. Be quick, they are in short supply.

Windsurfnsnow at Colloroy got a few in for me to look at .I think there is a S size Pure girl windsurf one with the velcro back support ( the one I really wnated but it was too small) + a few others I didn't like quite as much. I think they said the wholesaler could order one in but it could take 6 weeks which doesn't help. Anyway your dealer should be able to order some or contact Winsurfnsnow.
wssboards.com.au/
Ann will know which ones I tried.
I suppose it will be best if you can tryone on first but they do have a bit of adjustment.I'll pm you.Done
I think you should be able to get a windsurf spreader bar to go on most of the kiter ones? Anyway ask your dealer if its possible.I think that's the only real difference other than the loop at the back.So long as they are a womans design and fit ok and you can change the bar they should be great.

Ps - As well as a comfortable fit the harness's are made for women so they are easy to adjust. I can undo the spreader bar clip! ( not like the harness's I tried that were designed for men) and you can tighten the harness without getting a hernia or doing your back in..
The spreader bar clip is the quick release and has a strap you just pull up.

The only mens ones I tried were Mystic and they were impossible to undo.I even know of one man who finds them hard to open too.

that's why you made the right choice, prolimit are really good and comfy !!

They all come with the quick release, the little strap is prone to tear(mine did twice) but you can either sew it back or order a new foam with strap that covers the bar.

Yep I'm really happy with mine. I'm a bit inbetween sizes and the only hassle I'm noticing is I run out of leg strap adjustment so I cant get them really tight and end up with get a bit of a wedgy by the end of the session..Anyone else have that trouble.
I can fix it for a while by loosening everything , repositioning and retightening. What I'm thinking of doing is taping a strip of foam to the inside of each leg strap to bulk my 'legs' out so the strap will then be shorter and I'll be able to tighten it more. Not sure if electrical tape will be waterproof though?
I got too thin for my old harness and got a layer of karrimat type high density foam sandwhich that I used to put in the back of it so that I was 'fatter' and the strap could be tightened again..same thing I'd run out of adjustment around the stomach. That worked.

Here's what guy Cribb suggests- he advises against women wearing waist harness's.

The hour-glass shape of a woman has many benefits
and attractions, but it is not a good shape
for wearing a waist harness. If you put the harness
on the widest point, naturally it is going to slide
up into the narrower area, before finally becoming
jammed under your ribs. It's not comfortable
and it is very poor for your windsurfing as once
the harness has risen the pull of the lines is more
horizontal than vertical, and as such no longer
naturally suspends your weight from them, but
puts all your weight on your feet rather than the
mast foot. No wonder it's hard to plane.
As an intermediate to advanced windsurfer it
is paramount that you maintain good mast foot
pressure/downforce on the board, for control.
There are many girls who have overcome these
'high hook' problems with extensive time on the
water, a straighter body shape and by adjusting
their boom heights higher than normal.
However girls with the wide hips should definitely
try seat harnesses. I have changed so many
guests windsurfing for the better, and one of the
most instant results is getting girls to try seat harnesses.
It turns on the power, acceleration, top
speeds and jumps instantly. Whether they stick
with the seat harness or return to a waist harness
is irrelevant- the fact that they have felt the benefit
of using the lower hook is enough, they all now
understand the importance of pushing their harness
down if it slides up.

Here's the full article but I don't know if you can make it large enough to read easily? Thanks Ruth for the info.

Finally got to use my new Pure Girl seat harness for the first time, and aside from the very secure locked in feeling, no backache today. I had come to accept post- sailing backache as part of getting old, but maybe it was the harness getting old rather than me!

Nice discovery!
Great! I'm still amazed at how I can be nuking along and feel so comfortable , secure and in control! I always wondered why other people said sailing should feel comfortable and I never did...
Do you feel more in control and more cruisy?

Wind was pretty light and I was underpowered with my biggest sail (6.4) so hard to say, but I did get a PB... that was for a gybe though, which is unhooked, so no harness effect there...

I haven't tamed the easy uphaul yet... I had been to a Xmas party and had a champagne + it was pretty windy in close so I found it hard to even get on the board and balance .It was a bit too windy and choppy to easily set the length.I need a day where its calm close in so I can set the length easily.
One thing with the new harness is it restricts the legs a little which makes getting onto the board to uphaul a bit trickier especially when you've had acahmpagne.. Lucky I made sure I only had one!
I'll let you know when I've tamed it...The harness has certainly tamed the 7.2m!
