Hi everyone,

I'd like to replace the uphaul rope on my c. 1986 Bombora South Pacific. I'm hoping to replace it with something that is in keeping with the original style. Do you think maybe Whitworths have this type of coloured rope that I could then braid? Does anywhere else stockthis sort of thing? Looking closely at it, it appears to be a slightly waxy textured 6 ply rope (a few pink plies & one yellow ply). I will probably have to guess the required length of unbraided rope I'll need to buy.... Maybe there is a mathematical formula for that?!

PS: I am also open to considering more up-to-date uphauls on the market, but am unsure where to look for them. As a learner, I am probably not yet ready for one of the stretchy-type uphauls....

Hiya Snapperfish, i too prefer the w old uphaul ropes. Nice n soft, very easy to grip as it is round. The newer ones tend to cut into your hands as they compress flat when held. Yacht sheetropes are too hard. Most ropes used for climbing/ abseiling are soft like the old style uphauls. Maybe check em out.

I am learning as well. I use the uphaul that dakine makes with padded areas to grab on to. Works great for me!

I find all these suggestions to be very persuasive! So i am thinking i will have a bet each way! I'll try to chase up a new uphaul like the one ryan suggests, as well as make myself an old fashioned DIY braided uphaul. (To my surprise, Bunnings has some ropes that might be quite suitable for braiding into a uphaul... we shall see).
