Hi all,

I just brought a Severne Enigma wave boom (140 - 190) along with a new neil pryde uphual.

I went to put the uphaul on the boom but the eyelet is too small for the rope to pass through (photo below).

Does anyone else have this boom and has put a uphaul rope on?

Happy to order a new uphaul but need to know what will work...

Cheers,
Owain

You'll need to make a loop with a thinner rope... or just loop the uphaul over the top of the boom head (can make adjusting the the boom height unpleasant, though).

Use kite line with a barrel knot to make your loop.
Less permanent and fast, cable tie.

Or if not using the uphaul much (like I only put it on for mega light days in case I get stuck) I put it around the boom arm really close to the mast - with a strip of tape to make sure it does not slide back and annoy your front hand, then stuff it down the luff tube from the boom cutout. Then it is attached but out of the way down the inside of the luff tube until needed

put it around the mast above the boom and loop it through itself....that way boom wont open and cause grief. ... leave the boom alone its got enough to contend with:)

Nope, the x9 has a small uphaul eyelet as well, so it has a small loop out of thinner string threaded through it, which the uphaul line is then looped through. When that little loop snapped, I started doing this.

Alternatively, buy a North boom. The head has a great big uphaul eyelet. Unfortunately, the North head has the worst design for carbon wear (plastic ridges which produce point wear due to articulation.) Appalling really. I resorted to this.

Anyway, I flipped the head upside down (because Severne sails!) while I was at it, so the uphaul eyelet is at the top of the boom head, so I'm not using it.

Well I got it through after about 1 hr of minute advances with my fingers and a metal chopstick. After this process, a set of needle nose pliers allowed me to pull it through.

I think I might actually remove it and do the mast trick.

If it was 1-2mm larger it would have been 10x easier :S

I've got 2 Enigma's and on both I have used a piece of rope from either a downhaul or outhaul tied through the small hole on the boom then fed the uphaul through it. Never failed.

This is how NP X9 do it.

Just tie a rope that sits behind the clamp mech. I've just replace this piece and did the same on the new one.
The blue in the back is the mast protector and the front with the hole locates into the front of the boom.

Yeah, you're right... That rope ended up snapping on me. BTW, is the NP head carbon?
