Anyone recommend a courier company to pick up and delivery a board? First quote I got was for $280, about 3x as much as I'd hoped. Cheers.

This is very useful - thanks.

I should be more specific - I really want a pack and send provider. Pack and Send have quoted $280 from QLD to VIC. If it was already packed it would be $90 with other couriers. Surely the packing isn't going to cost almost $200!

You're best of seeing if you can grab some board packaging from a local windsurfing shop, they usually have a heap lying around. All of those pack and send places charge a premium for the convenience.

^^^ yup they are going to charge a lot to pack a board. If there is a shop within cooee it is worth grabbing a board box and packing from them. It is going in the bin anyway....

In the threads here about sending stuff I saw Transdirect mentioned a couple of times. I recently used them to send a sail west - east and it was a horrific poor standard of service. They missed pickup 3 times for a start. Long story and the problems were more than just the pickup issue - the worst service I have ever had from anyone, ever.

Pack & send might charge more but I assume they then warrant the delivery? At last you know it should arrive in one piece. They send artworks with glass in them so they must know what they are doing..Having said that, on my budget I wouldn't be able to afford them..

i should have listened to your advice, i had a sail and a board sent. the sail was picked up Thursday in Noosa and arrived in Melbourne in Monday. The board is still missing. It was picked up on the same day at the same place (different seller though) and is still missing. Don't try calling Transdirect, its almost impossible to talk to someone and they just handball you off to the couriers they subcontract. Transdirect don't actually pick up and deliver, they use Toll and Allied. So it get messy as there are other parties involved.

No problems so far , cheap and quick.

DO NOT use Transdirect. They have not called me since last Thursday, even after I logged a call saying my board was missing. Toll IPEC (their sub-contractor) aren't much better. I was promised categorically I would have a call this afternoon, even if they didn't know anything more. No call.

Terrific customer service. I would highly recommend against using either of these providers with your precious windsurfing gear.

Fk man geez I feel for you. They screwed me around so bad, Transdirect are on my sh!tlist forever now.
Please do persist, I finally got a direct number for the depot of the sub-contractor (in my case Toll-Ipec) and got thru the the actual person who manages the depot. He was awesome.
Transdirect - sh!t
Toll-Ipec "help" line - Sh!t
The actual bloke who has to wear the incompetence of the former two was tops. He went off at peopel, and suddenly the "no-can-do" of the last 5 days was done in 30mins. Keep trying mate

If that does not work, find the highest boss you can in Toll-Ipec and bill them for $2500 - that's what boards cost :)

Toll IPEC keep telling me they are checking and will get back to me. Yesterday I narrowed it down to the QLD hub, because I basically made the guy call Maroochydore and eliminate them from the search. I mean seriously, how hard is it. I kept asking him to tell me exactly what was involved. No-one wants to take responsibility. I will see if I can get the number for the QLD centre and get onto them today.

Have you tried this number? It is the one the company I used to work for used if they had issues with lost freight.

Toll IPEC Nation Office
11-25 Toll Drive, Altona North, Vic, 3025, Telephone: (03) 8368 1200

Or their Main depot at Richlands: 514 Boundary Rd Richlands QLD 1300 550 360

or any of these numbers:
http://www.whitepages.com.au/business-listing/toll-group-1043660

Good luck again.

I think I've found the board.

Still yet to hear back from Transurban since I lodged a call with them a week ago. Nothing, nada, niente, ziltch, zippo.

DO NOT use Transurban, and please don't encourage others to. Good stories are all well and good, but do you want to risk being one of the (seemingly quite a few) bad stories?

E-go not that great either just search this forum on E-go.
I've had issues with E-go before but not Transdirect maybe Ive just been lucky.

Also worth looking at Australian airline express airport to airport.
its normally around the $100 mark for a board, but at lest its not bouncing around in the back of a semi.

Ive had great experience with Australian Air express. Used airport to airport lots of times, usually arrives the next day and never with any damage.

However theyve recently "updated" there pricing on the board service, used to be bout $85-100 max, now it is $250 minimum for a board, so they are permanetly crossed off my list now sadly

DeeJay - I have been dealing with Toll in Melbourne, their investigations team (I got through to them first). After a lot of buck passing and "we'll call you back" and not hearing, they eventually tracked down the board in the Brisbane depot. Mind you I had to keep calling to find this out, no-one called me to tell me. I've been told it should arrive tomorrow - will keep you posted.

For the record, I paid Transdirect for this "service", they then subcontract Toll IPEC. Having raised the issue with Transdirect last Thursday, after the board was days late and had not left the Maroochydore depot (according to their scanning), Transdirect are yet to contact me again with any follow up whatsoever. I am utterly appalled with the lack of customer service. Its like they have their fingers crossed that I just go away.

I would strongly recommend shopping around and not using them if you don't have to.

The best I have found is Smartsend, but they are the dearest. Transdirect was great for me as well but will think twice next time after these posts. Ego was a nightmare for me......
