Hi there,
I have 4 weeks from mid December to mid January and pretty keen to road trip somewhere for windsurfing, waves would be a bonus.
I live near Sydney but keen to drive anywhere at this stage. Where can I score some wind most days in summer? 20 knots + at least. Had a look at WA, looks sweet as but far away... Any similar spots in QLD, SA or VIC?
Cheers for the input!
Nick
Good morning,
For Melbourne, go here: http://www.baywx.com.au/, select Bay Winds, Wind Averages, Fawkner Beacon.
We expect a south to south westerly wind MOST days, building from 10 kts in the AM, up to 25 kts in the PM.
For last year???s ACTUAL conditions, go here: http://www.baywx.com.au/, select Bay Winds, select Past Wind and Temp Graphs, select location as Fawkner Beacon and St Kilda RMYS and select the month.
Fawkner Beacon is about 5 kms off shore and picks up every wind direction and wind strength. You can lose 10 knots between the Beacon and St Kilda. Conversely, the Beacon can be 20 kts easterly, but St Kilda will be 20 kts southerly (LOVE those days) so the best place to sail is in the St Kilda region, including Elwood.
Our Bay waves are mushy, are up to 1.5m, have no power and have a period of about 5 seconds. If you get caught in the washing machine, you???ll know all about it.
We had over 30 kts of wind yesterday and this little doggie is glad to be back at work, recovering.
Hope this helps.
For the sake of two and a half days intense driving you might as well go to Coronation Beach Geraldton.
