Just returning to the sport after a few (~8) years away and not really sure why I stopped now I'm out there again!
I've decided that I need to upgrade my gear as the old Alpha 160 was second-hand when I got it so it's a bit dated now. I've spotted a full rig package (second hand) that looks OK but I'm a bit concerned about the mix of boom/mast/sail as things seem to have got more complicated since I first bought gear and I'm not sure what sails go with what masts etc.
The package I was looking at has Neil Pryde mast and boom but Gaastra sails. So I'm looking for help with two questions:
* Are Gaaastra sail compatible with Neil Pryde mast/boom?
* With Neil Pryde mast/boom does that limit options to add/upgrade sails in the future?
Appreciate any help on the topic

this matrix generalises what masts are compatible with what sails.
as you can see Gaastra and NP are oposite ends of spectrum.
Ideally you would match mast to sails but if on a budget, constant curve mast are more commonly used and therefore a bit more easily interchangeale.
generally NP and Gaastra are at opposite ends of the scale
however, it is important to remember that Barry Spanier of Maui Sails used to work with NP
there are NP CK66 masts which are older and are compatible with Gaastra and Maui Sails - as per Maui Sails forum TEAM
other than that exception, i know of NO NP/Gaastra combo that works at all - supposed to be the worst combo EVER !!

luckily over 80 % of the sails n masts are constant curve
constant curve mast has worked with my MauiSails hard top sail
you may by chance have fallen on the worst combo possible
Peterman writes about such matches as well , butt cannot find the fotos which illustrate the issues :(
