Does anybody have experience with de RRD firestorm 2011/2012?

My local shop offers me a Firestorm 138 instead of a starboard Futura 131.
I don't know the board.

I have experience withe the Futura I had a F133 from 2010 and I still own a F111 '11 and F93 '11

I like to use the board in light wind with Freerace sails 8,5 and 9,5.

There is also a Firestorm LTD is this a carbon board?

Hope that someone can give me some answers

Marco

Hi Marco.
We are using the FireStorm ltd's at our centre over here in the Cocos Islands (Australia).
They're superb boards.. fast, yet even more comfortable than the XFire, from which their rocker line is derived. The signature RRD ease of gybing is certainly there..set & forget!
I certainly recommend that you demo one if you can!
..and yes... we are the importers for Australia, but any bias is justified!
I would always go for the ltd if you can, as the lightness extends it's range.

Cheers.
Jez

+1
especially on the jibes and early planning, you might not get the same top end speed as the futura but you'll have heaps more fun !! And boy do they look good !!!!!

Jez , is there such a weight difference between LTD and classic ?

I can't really see it making a difference in the range, maybe in the speed (being stiffer)..

the firestorm Wtech120 was the winner of the planchemag test even against the futura 121 Carbon.

Only - was a few spinouts and top end speed a bit lower than the Futura and the fanatic ray 130

All race RRD are mat track sensitive as they are shorter in average than most boards.

Took me a few sessions to get my firerace right.

Hi sean,

I see that you are using the Firerace, Would did be a good board for me as well? I have Futura's and they have Turttlebox the Firestorm has a powerbox. If I buy a Firestorm I also have to buy a powerbox fin, For the firerace I dont have to becaus I already have this type of fins.

I'am an experienced surfer, but I don't want a full slalomboard. I like the plug and play .

The firerace is an awesome board, I'm more a "full on" slalom rider but I like the feel and confort of the firerace opposed to the X fire(hard on the knees).

I also had a Futura 122 but sold it cause it lacked a bit of top end speed.

If you have a good deal on the firerace go for it !! It has an awesome early planing and just keeps accelerating.

Somewhere on the forum I posted a video a session on the firerace.

Handles chop well as it's quite short. The other good thing is the "two footstrap settings" that full slalom boards usually don't have, and it comes with a fin !

Hi Sean,

Do you have the V2 or the V3? I can get both of them in 122ltr. for a good price

Which one do you recommend ?

I have the 2010 (probably V2...)

It all comes down to the price, performance wise I tried the latest edition, didn't notice any difference with mine.
Just thought the colours were nicer on the V3
You also be amazed by the footstraps, soooo comfy !!!
Wouldn't say the same about the pads (slalom board) but at least they stay on.... (re starboard)

A little late in replying Sean, as our internet in Cocos has been down..
There is carbon (UD80gm) on the deck, and for sure you can feel a pretty big difference when sailing the LTD version as compared to the W Tech. 10% dead weight makes a noticeable difference in the get up & go, as well as reducing the swing weight for maneuverability .. Looks a lot better as well!!
The 111 & 120 have been really popular with both experienced and intermediate sailors here. The comfort & easy speed make them very good for those learning to gybe, whilst their outright performance makes lagoon blasting fun.

Couple of shots from Cocos enclosed for those in chillier climes...

Cheers Jez

Thanks for the answer Jez, nice pics.

Gee I can't imagine how fast I would be if I had a Xfire instead of my trusted Firerace then !!

Maybe my knees would notice the difference though....

I'm being picky as the only reasons I chose the firerace were the fin and the $$$$. (and the dealer didn't have a 112 carbon at the time)

I just bought my self two boards.

I bought the X-fire V4 129 and the X-fire V4 114
A very nice deal whit my distrubitor. . I will get them on friday, hope I can go on the water then.

Thnx for Your advice and help.

I let you know what my experience will be.

Do you have any reconmendations for the fin?

I will use a C3 sting 48 for the 129. For the 114 I have to see... I will use 7,8 and 7,0 on it. Any thoughts?

congrats, you're going to be smoking on the water !!!!!

40cm should be plenty enough for the 7.8 (I use 40 on my rs 7.8 and 36 on my 6.7).
