I fell on my board harness hook first. Put a crack in it right where I put my foot into the straps. I have attached a few pictures.
Couple of questions
- I was planning on filling it with this epoxy filler - one called "marine tex"
- Any advice on the size of area I should apply it? I was thinking one big patch that extends 2 inches past the crack on every direction
- Then I might put a fiberglass coat on top of that
- Do you think this repair will hold? Especially with the fact that this is where I put my front foot on the board?
I'm buying a new board soon, but I'd love to keep this board for light wind days and a big sail. Any advice is appreciated!
Id cut back all the damaged glass and remove the compressed foam.
Get some divinycell and adhere that into the prepared area, sand back to suit
Then re-apply another layer of glass and epoxy over the divinycell
^^ agreed. That is more than hook damage, looks like it was already cracked due to heel damage.
Remove divinycell layer and I bet you find damaged styro that needs to be repaired a bit.
Just slapping glass over the top of that will be temporary.
If you can wait a week or two I can show you - I have one in with damage in the same spot - there are a few ways to go about it depending on your skills and materials to hand. Once you do the first one you can catch other soft spots before they split and that board will have a long and happy life. If you let them creep towards the footstrap inserts they will start breaking out of the foam and lifting big areas of the deck and you will be getting water in around the plugs. Thats about all I can offer right now
My advice is to wait for M.O.B. to show us.
No simple fix will last very long there.
I agree with Mark that's more than harness hook damage.
Chop strand and timber eh, well that's a surprise.
^^ yeah agreed I knew the Starts were cheapo but didn't know the Go's were "SUP construction"
I hope the 130L Go is not like that as it is also designed for people fully planing on it
Nuthin wrong with a bit of the old chopped stuff..I've got a Mistral Equipe II here made with it and its still perfectly serviceable!
