I've just taken delivery of a new board which was shipped from the UK - and the reason for my current problem is I can't just pop back to the dealer to get it sorted!

The groove in one the US boxes has an obstruction (it doesn't appear to have been routed out properly) in the middle of the channel that the nuts are supposed to slide along. See photos below the first shows the limit that it can go before being stopped by the obstruction.

Seems a bit of nonsense to be depriving myself of my new toy whilst it gets shipped back and forwards around the world to get replaced.

Has anyone resolved a similar issue themselves?

p.s. I know I should have bought it local - but my needs were immediate ( that worked out well!) and I specifically wanted a goya 104 which were out of stock in Perth.

Is the obstruction in the bottom, or is the groove not machined all the way along?
If the former, Dremel piece of cake.
If the latter its going to be a lot harder!

I had a drop of epoxy in the front corner of the "nut channel" in my box.
Scratched it out with a Slim screwdriver, 10 minutes of work.

take the nut out, put the fin in but leave the front edge out so just the slug at the back is in the routed channel and move it back and forth a few times against the blockage, sometimes its enough to knock the obstruction out.........

As Mark said its definitely not machined all the way.

It is a bit of a biggie when talking about a new board, so you'd expect the manufacturer to be all about getting it sorted asap. So fingers crossed...

I am talking to the UK supplier at moment, and apparently they are going to talk to Goya in the hope that something can be arranged via the Aus distributor.

Arranging to or fixing myself is problematic for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I paid for a brand new board and not a diy project!! And secondly if anything goes wrong or there is another underlying issue I'll be a bit buggered for any further warranty.

So fingers crossed they can get it sorted before Gnaraloo in Oct or I'll be a) a little bit pissed and b) Asking Mark_australia for more detail on his hard to describe solution :)

Something like this may help (if you have a laminate trimmer or small router-and some good guides solidly fixed in place!).

I don't know that one has a major dia (of cut) much larger than the shank. Bet there is something though....

As an engineer ( geeze I've copped it for that before ) , what your looking for is a T slot cutter. Great if everything is sold as a rock . ( like a jigged up router ). Freehand , is like letting a tsunami off in a matchbox. Can be done , and I'd give it a go , gentle, yentle, cos it could get ugly.

Hey Bernalot, That is great news. Mark certainly gives great customer service and will go the extra mile in my experience. Hope all works out well.

As a closing note to this, I need to give a final shout out to Mark at Surf Sail in Leederville. Despite not having bought the board from his store, as a Goya Distributor, he took responsibility for the situation and determined to resolve it. He was happy for me to leave the board with him whilst I was away and liaise with Goya to get it all sorted.

As it happens Mark had the skills to resolve the issue himself.

So I'm stoked and just feel the need to give credit where credit is due and acknowledge excellent customer service when I encounter it!
