seems like a very confusing way to set downhaul and batten tension starting at around 8mins

Don't find much confusing at 7'40". The battens 4 to 6 need to be on a straight line and you adjust the batten tension and, in that case, the down haul to do so. It is an excellent video actually, very detailed.

he does make it look easy but in my experience these sails are incredibly fussy to rig and damn heavy, although blisteringly fast once they're set up. Just getting the battens on is about a five step process - Reduce tension on 2 & 3, downhaul to a specific point, then pop on the third cam, downhaul a little further, now the second cam, downhaul almost all the way, pop 1 & 4, then downhaul fully, then outhaul, then adjust batten tension but not too tight or they won't rotate well. I'm using the Point7 mast, too! Once you're up, though, you may run out of bottle but the sail itself won't ever be overpowered.

So you adjust battens to get them in a straight line, then you down haul then you adjust battens again if they are not straight anymore. Why not just skip step one and 2 if after you've downhauled you have to adjust battens again.
Im thinking about trying them but I can rig a Od M2 in no time at all and sometimes time is an issue

If you want easier rigging and/or a lighter sail try the AC-Z. Racing performance with freeride convenience. After buying one to try, I bought a complete quiver ... so better check your bank account before you try one :)
