I think it is long so, rather like a lion tamer uses a chair, we can keep the adoring crowds at bay.
I mean, anyone who used a 12.5 back in the day, on a Tyronsea330 will certainly understand.

I think you're correct.
Those extensions would be very rare now, I don't many would be left at all.
