I regularly paint from a model ( rather than a photo) with a group of like minded artists.I created a self portrait for an exhibition they had and then decided to enter it in the local Dobell art show at Rathmines. It won 1st prize in the oil section..![]()

Pity I have to spend the $ on bills..
Another board etc would be nice.. I am going to splurge on a weed fin though.![]()
'Making a mark'
I'm about to decide where I want to place the paint. I'ts planned so you to look at my face 1st rather than the hand.
Great use of colour & light! Also admire the way you've used a sharper (but subtle) focus on the face, which as you said, attracts the eye straight toward it even though the hand is closer...well done!
I can draw a cartoon but I found that painting was on a whole different level - especially painting people so I gave up on painting - too difficult for me.
Nice work there Sue. If you've got a talent, its a good thing to follow it and make your mark. I dont seem to have one.
Well done, Where in Rathmines is the Dobell prise held at? the community hall?
Wicked flatwater sailing spot out the front of that hall in a southerly, can get massive jumps just off the point to the left.
Thanks everyone!
I actually put some more subtle colours through the shadow side of the face since this photo was taken ( before the artshow) but I don't have a photo of the most recent version yet. It's a hard portrait to get a decent photo of!
Great job Sue!
Now we can say we know someone rich and famous. ![]()
Well,.. famous at least. Being art, the 'rich' might come after you're dead.
I'm not sure why but it seems to be a pre-requisite.
Tell me when you're feeling really sick and I will run out and buy all your paintings. ![]()
I love your dog pictures. They are better than photos. Much more expressive.
Very very good Sue...you constantly inspire me, thank you.
2 of my 4 kids who are still at home with me found a big box of my paintings I did in the mid '80s just last week. They hung them up in their rooms and around the house. They're far from classics but they liked 'em enough to be displayed. It's got me thinking, maybe it's time for me to pull my finger out and have a dabble again. I'm going to have plenty of time on my hands soon so it could be an opportunity.
Thanks for sharing with us.
